R56 Justa reliability ?
Justa reliability ?
I read all these horror stories about the R56S and I guess I'm glad I sold ours and got a 135i instead
now that I have a longer commute I need a daily driver, 100 miles a day makes me look at picking up a r56 justa I don't want to put miles on the 135i or jeep.
Does the justa "ep6" ? have these reliability issues too? There is so much focus on the n14/n18 it's hard to determine what are shared issues.
I'm considering 08-13 anything on the justa that changed in 11?
I would get another S, but only if there are "bulletproof" mods that fix the shortfalls, and I do not think there are just yet, 26k miles a year is quite a bit on a turbo with "known" issues, one DI bmw in the garage is enough I think.

I'm on my third Justa. The first was a 2006 R50, the second was a 2010 R56, and I now have a 2012 Countryman. All have been very reliable, and a blast to drive. The issues with carbon build-up, high pressure fuel pumps, timing chain guides/tensioners, and turbo oil line leaks are all related to the S models.
'09 R56 Cooper Automatic here. Got it @13k miles, now 60k. Dead reliable. I have done all recommended maintenance plus oil changes every 5k miles. I have not modified the running bits in any way. Comparing to other cars and trucks I've owned - this car has been the most trouble free for its milage and age plus has provided by far the most smiles.
Front brakes @ 25k, fronts and rears @ 50k.

2007 R56 here. I had a problem with the climate control right after delivery which was fixed under warranty. At 60K miles I had a problem with the water pump thermostat - which did not strand me. Overall I consider mine to be quite reliable. Now at 74K miles. Speculation on my part, but I believe the engine is very sensitive to maintaining oil level at the full mark to reduce timing chain/tensioner issues.
I have an 08 R56 Justa I bought with 28,000 from original owner. I now have 61k plus and have only done brakes, plugs and standard maintenance every 5,000. I've had it a year and a half and we've driven it all over the US. Average 35 mpg mostly with my foot in it. Premium gas is a must for me. Wife has a 07 R52 Justa and there is no comparison as far as MPG or the ability to pass someone. The 5 speed compared to the 6 is not desirable for me as well. Luckily she only drives hers to work and she loves it. Great little vehicles and will prolly drive these two till they drop.

I would also add they don't have the high heat built up under the hood. With less power, the stress and wear rate on the engine and transmission is considerably lower. I totally agree they are a blast to drive and I have also owned 2007 MCS.

worst issue i think i've had on mine so far was a small oil leak at the front crankshaft seal. that was fixed for less than $200 f i recall. After that , the vanos solenoid was starting to fail so i was popping codes. i forget the cost of that. In any case, i'm at 64k and yet to have a full on break down type issue, always small things that weren't critical.(knock on wood)
bmw also suffer from vanos sticking, the fix is teflon seals instead of OEM, I have to put them in our e39 next month it's starting to act up and throw fault codes
i would get a 2011+ just for the revised bumper and taillights. My wife has a 08 auto justa with 49K. I think it requires more maintenance than every Japanese car I've owned, but typical for every European car I've owned.
This was my first R56S, someone clipped us and spun us into the front of this truck, he did not see us and kept driving pushing us sideways down I285 until someone else passed him and flagged him down so he would pull over

Hope you are all OK. Will the car be repaired or replaced? :-(
