fixing cracked Strut Mounts?

I was told by the dealer while they had my 07 MCS in for the campaign items that my Strut Mounts were cracked and needed to be replaced. I did a search and so far haven't found anything regarding how to fix them.
Anyone have any advise as to where I would get the how to and parts necessary?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Richard

Hello Richard,

You will have to pull the front shock out and then compress the spring. Then unbolt the top center nut from the strut to mount and replace in reverse.

Here is the strut mounts: #1

Top center nut: #3

If you need to replace the caps or missing them. #4 ( the strut nut is under this cap )

Collar nuts #2 , there for each strut. Replace them if they look bad or corroded.

The top diagram hows a break down of the front shock / spring. make sure when you compress / compressed the spring with a tool that when uncompressed its aligned to the spring pad , upper and lower. And the spring plate is aligned to the upper pad also.

Its good the replace the strut mounts in pairs , if one side is cracked , its only a matter on time when the other ones goes.

Thanks and good luck.

Thanks, I will be ordering the parts from you.
Will the rented spring compressor from O'Reilly's work for the MINI or is there a certain one that has to be obtained?

You are welcome. We have our own tool, I did not know if you were taking to a shop or not. Slid it on and lock it. Try to get it on the highest and lowest point on the spring. so you get the most compression. Don't know what the o'reill'ys one looks like.

Including the spring compressor, this looks to be about a $300 DIY job. Not too bad considering what it would be to pay someone else. Great write up for those needing this repair.

need something small and different tool. because I could only attach between only 2 and there is no space to 3rd(difficult to explain) but if you try it with that tool, then you will understand what I am talking.

On the R53 its a little tight ( we are talking about the R56 ), I removed the wheel well plastic and then re-postioned it and it worked for me, just did it on a R52 with cracked strut mounts on both sides. Ours is two rods, not a three rod system, think you mean you could only get it on two springs in the middle space other then three maybe ?

nothing like compressing a spring. Locked and cocked and ready to fire. probably not as bad as my TA , smaller spring.
