time for winter tire swap! detroit tuned spare??
hi! it's getting colder and colder~ this means winter tire season is around the corner! my new dunlops arrived and looking to putting them on soon,
i had a question about a spare tire, because dunlops are non RFs, i plan to buy detroit tuned spare and haul with me everywhere, i tried researching them to see if there are any pics but i was in no luck...
any of you guys have pics maybe installed(hope not!) or what it looks like in r56's trunk or in the back seat??

Know how many flat tires I've had in 40 years of driving? Exactly 1. And it was a slow leak. If it had the tpms, I bet I could have stopped, filled the tire and kept going. It's usually not the hole that kills the tire, it driving on it when it's flat.
i agree with what you said about running on low leading to flat, but over years i've had so many flat and as worse as complete puncture from potholes and debris on the road, that;s why i'm getting a spare to go with mini,
i drive from buffalo to detroit about twice a month through canada, last thing i want is stand out in cold with slime and pump- or call and wait forever for tow to come,

Get another set of wheels for the winter. When you are going on a trip, throw one of your summer wheels in the boot. That way you can swap your tires in your garage (if you have a jack) and it won't cost you to change tires.

I believe there's a thread on here about making you're own spare for much cheaper. It involved ordering a tire from somewhere and snagging a spare wheel from another type of car at a u-pull-it yard(if this is something you're ok with doing). Just an option if you want essentially the same thing DT sells but without as big a hit on the wallet.
Also, one word of advice that it seems almost no one ever knows/remembers about a donut spare tire: DO NOT PUT THEM ON THE FRONT EVER. If you get a front flat, you jack up the whole side of the car, swap your front and rear wheels and put the donut on the rear. You will mess things up in a hurry putting a small donut spare on the drive wheel.
Also, one word of advice that it seems almost no one ever knows/remembers about a donut spare tire: DO NOT PUT THEM ON THE FRONT EVER. about buying a wheel from a MINI dealer, a tire from TireRack and getting them put together. Much less expensive that buying a complete spare. About the same price as a MINI junkyard purchase. The advantage is that the parts are new and the tires are not old rubber.
