How difficult is it to put new rear quarter windows in?

Im curious as to how hard it is to switch out my rear quarter windows. My 2 rear quarter windows were scratched by my window tinter and he is having new glass installed for me next week. My biggest concern is the possibility of more damage to the car while the windows are being replaced. Has anyone here had to have either of the rear quarter windows replaced? If so how did it go?

it is all up to the ability of the installer

who's doing it?

a large chain like SAFELITE would warranty the work and guarantee satisfaction

and Bob's auto glass and lawn service won't . . .

I haven't had any luck with glass installers.. They always broke trim..or the window would leak... But ive learned to ask them before they do anything if they have ever done a MINI before? If no...I just say thanks for your time.. My car isn't there for them to learn on..lol..

Just how bad are the windows scratched? I would be very concerned about those rear ones... Im wondering if that requires to have the inside trim removed? When they tried to cut out the rear window out on my MINI they didn't remove any trim...result was the trim ended up getting all gouged up...Not happy..

It will be an independent installer who I have been told specializes in higher end cars. I did a search and couldnt find any reviews on the glass company but I was able to confirm they have been around a while and the owner is the installer.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with glass installers.

The windows arent to bad but it is noticeable. If the car wasnt brand new I might just live with it. My biggest fear is the paint being scratched . I dont want my trim being damaged but if it is at least those pieces are easily replaceable. I will most definitely ask if hes done a mini before and specifically if hes done the rear quarter windows and what needs to be removed to do them.

I just replaced mine. I had scratched it.i just duck taped the inside and took a spring loader center punch and pow!tousands of pieces stuck to the tape. Then it was easy to cut the adhesive and replace.saved worrying about the paint.

I'd be sure to take some pictures before the install. Have the installer sign and date them. Then if he does any damage you have proof positive.

Thats a good idea. I will be there while he is doing the work also. Since there is so little info available on replacing the rear side windows I may take pics of the process and post them on here for others to reference later.

Thanks. It will be interesting to see what method the installer uses.

Im sure you wont have the trouble I did..this happened early on when MINIs just weren't around.. But honestly you should be fine..but I feel it never hurts to ask them if they are familiar with them.. I do wish you luck

Well the attempted glass install didnt go well. Installer wasnt sure how to go about removing glass and put some small scratches in my car attemting to remove the beltline trim under the window. If I hadnt stopped him when I did it wouldve been bad. I think Im gonna just live with the scratches until I can find an installer that really knows Minis.

On a side note I really wish Mini would do away with the beltline trim. Ive had problems with the trim before on another Mini. The trim is flimsy, damages easily and is a pain to get off without damaging paint.

Why not polish the scratches out? Cerium Oxide and a cordless drill goes a long way..

I've had good luck with other cars...

The window tinter scratched them while cleaning them with a razor blade. The scratches are on the inside of the glass.

Rear Quarter Window will not roll up all the way...

Hey all...does anyone know what the issue would be if my driver side rear quarter window rolls down, but when I roll it up, it makes a crazy sound like its off track or something and then will not roll up all of the way...I can pull it up into place but it is loose, as I drive, it shimmy's down about 2 inches...is this a regulator motor? is this an easy fix? expensive? (probably is my guess)...if anyone could shed some light on this it would be very helpful...it is a 2005 mini convertible....thanks
