R56 Bump stops and TSW's
Bump stops and TSW's
Just wondering, if I get TSW springs (1" drop) will I need the shortened bump stops too? I figure the oem stops are the size they are to prevent the suspension from bottoming out and hitting/damaging things, right? I don't want to blow out the stock struts...

I first ran the TSW's with my factory Sport shocks and the regular bump stops. Any significant road dips were pretty jarring, and the car felt suspension limited. I swapped to non-sport shocks and the WMW shorter bump stops. The car seemed much more composed with the shorter bump stops. I drove that way for about a year, with no noticeable change in ride over that time. I picked up a used set of Koni Yellows, and that change has transformed the car into something that I really like.
BTW, I trimmed a 1/4 coil off of the front springs, because it looked like the car was higher in the front than the rear.
For $40, I would get the bump stops. Is this your daily driver?

Install went okay, the front struts are a pain in the *** to put in/out as it is. I cut 3/4" off the bumpstops, I was able to reuse the boots by using zipties. Ride is sooooo much better than stock, the height is noticeably lower, might settle more I'm assuming.

I haven't seen my springs settle any. To me, the ride height looks like it should have from the factory, not necessarily lowered.
I'm glad that the install went well for you, put some miles on her and enjoy!!
have fun,

also an FYI: the front might look higher but in fact the ride height from the ground is still lower in the front than the rear, it's simply the fender design that makes the rear "look" sagging. Even way motors said the factory springs cause too much rake so I'm guessing this is why they chose this look.
so my tsw were really noisy in the front, kept hearing clunking and made sure everything was tight. come to find out the two lowest most coils were touching each other under slight compression. it wore some paint away already and could feel with my hand the roughness along the bottom coil. my oem's didn't have a rubber insulator on any coil nor did the tsw's come with any. i cut a goodyear rubber coolant hose in half and super glued it on the bottom coil so theres a cushion between the two. quiet as a button now. kinda disappointed about this.
I did cut about 2" off the top coil to help lower it a little but it didn't really help, since when the car is on the ground on its own weight the two bottom coils are touching each other, now i have rubber between them and is slightly raising the ride height.
