Need a summary of all MINI issues for the R56?

Is there a link/thread that list all the current issues and which models they apply too? Thanks.

Find it all at: 2nd Gen Mini, Stock Problems/Issues... Not every car is the same so not every car has the same problems if any...

The biggest problem with these cars...which I got done when I bought the car, is to have the tires rotated. Some how the right tires got on the left and the front tires were on the back! I wasn't happy at all.

To get a balanced view, check out the "trouble-free" threads as well. Many of us have somehow managed to escape the seemingly chronic woes that always rise to the top in forums like this one. I've been very impressed with my MINI's reliability, but I'll admit that experiences in this regard certainly vary.

Do you have a copyright on this or can anyone use it?

Love it! Well said! This also needs to find it's way into the R60 arena.

Keyfob.

Lol. I just bought my 09 Mini, and the key fob died a week later.

But hey, for the sake of being constructive here is what i know...

  • Timing chain rattles & breakage
  • Aux. water pump recall
  • thermostat housing failures after 50k miles
  • water pump shaft seal failures & squeaking noises
  • leaking turbo oil lines at 50K and up
  • high pressure fuel pump issues resulting in 100K mile extended warranty to pump
  • So many rattles in the winter it sounds like you're carrying buckets full of bolts
  • Carbon buildup in intake ports and on back of intake valves
  • High oil consumption on cars that are driven by Sunday drivers
  • Sudden addiction to driving ***** deep into turns

About half of countryboyshane's list of issues (all of which have lengthy dedicated threads) is restricted to the turbo engine cars, so if you're really concerned about long-term reliability, think about sticking with a Cooper.

At least give the straight Cooper a thought! They're feisty little cars too, and have far fewer problems. Cheaper, better gas mileage, runs cooler, fewer troublesome parts, and they can hold their own in the twisties, which is where it counts!!

We love ours, we have TWO straight Coopers.

Well, sort of... :-) The straight Coopers have room for a spare, where the twin exhaust would go in a turbo. But unless you order 15" wheels, you still get run flats AND a spare. We ordered 16" wheels on our straight Coupe and the option for non run flats went away because of the wheel size. It surprised the heck out of our salesman when I showed him that we did, indeed, get a spare. NAM rules again!!

thanks, initially I was thinking the cooper, but the turbo sounds so enticing. I'm going to drive my buddy's cooper this weekend and see how it feels. Thanks for the feedback.

Straight MINI:
No runflats (unless you want them)
A spare tire if you need it
No carbon build up on the valves
No melting non-functional hood scoop
No timing chain issues
Etc., etc.,etc.

The MCS is not particularly fast by today's standards; the straight Cooper is slower but gets better gas mileage and has far fewer reliability issues.
