Why is a JCW worth $6000 more...

.. than a Mini Cooper S. 0 to 60mph JCW=6.1 sec---MCS = 6.5 secs. Is it just me or is this a rip. BMW 335i vs M3. check it out.

It may not be the best bang for the buck. But so long as people are willing to pay it, that's what it's "worth."

You are not paying $ 6,000 for added performance alone but also for the warrenty covering that added performance. You can go faster for far less than $6000 but you may be on your own with any possible repairs .

$2000 for the J, $2000 for the C, and $2000 for the W. And will be worth every penny when I take delivery of my order.

Brakes, body kit, wheels, suspension, stronger internals and clutch for added reliability/potential. I think plenty of people, like myself, prefer to keep a factory look/parts, and the JCW gives you a lot more than just a little straight line performance without having to customize.

I don't know the numbers off hand, but the premium for the JCW is higher here in Canada, I believe. I saw a few on the lot well over $40k, although I couldn't tell you what particular options they had. Considering the dollar is near equal, I don't know what MINI's justification is, but you don't see that many JCW up here.

Based on your sig it looks as if you changed 90% of the JCW parts out ? Wouldn't you have done better financially by buying a straight S and then put the savings into those mods ? That was my reasoning at least when I bought mine.

I guess the answer is that the extra dough buys you the exclusivity of the JCW brand's factory performance. Granted, on paper the power difference is less now than it used to be, but with an aftermarket tune, there is much more power to be had because the car has a different turbo and beefed up internals. Also, the car has better brakes and a few standard features the regular S lacks. Is it worth $6k? Depends on ones point of view....

No regrets here. Would've if I didn't buy my JCW and "settled" on an S.

Personally, I agree with mcmmotorsports. I test drove an S, as well as several other cars. When you add the warranty coverage vs. performance gains, start to consider the phenominal breaks, beefed up internals, better exhaust, etc... you start to see the price gap shrink. Now you also get the mandatory body kit (that may actually be a minus).

I feel I would have had regrtets if I hadn't bought my JCW, and I'm smiling ear to ear everytime I drive it, even more so now that I've ditched the run flats.

Yep. I had an S previous to my JCW and was not fully satisfied. Traded it in a year later on a JCW and took a loss; but so very worth it. If you could drive them back to back, you will see the big difference. Not to mention, in my observations, so many of the blown engines are S's running tunes/high boost. Sure you can get the same or greater hp than a stock JCW for cheaper, but unless you beef the internals, you are driving a ticking time bomb.

$6,000 is a bargain for what you get in performance.

Yep, Huge Brembo brakes, huge ventilated rotors, larger sway bars, Heavy duty clutch, Larger turbo, Beefed up engine block & internals, Challenger 26 pound sturdy wheels, Beefed up transmission, different gear and axial ratios, Plus you do get the John Cooper works badges. Yep, you do!!!

And You get the full four year factory warranty that you won't have if you buy the "S" and overly modify it.

The JCW is not for everyone and that is why Mini offers a bunch of different models to choose from. Me, personally-I bought and love my 2009 factory JCW.

Also the engine and transmission in the factory JCW is made in Germany.

It cost $6000 more, but it's not worth $6000 more.
If you really want it, a used JCW MCS may be the way to go, as most of
the JCW cost has depreciated.

I'm so satisfied I've had two of them, '09 and '11. I'm not a big modder, I like buying the factory's best to begin with.

Wow

I'm sure happy that a car will be depreciated when you drive it off of the dealers lot.

Of course you can look for a used one and pay less but there are some people that want a brand new never owned car so they will pay more to have one.

If they want a JCW I'm sure that the extra $$$$ they pay will not be wasted on the pleasure they get from having a brand new car in the color and options they want. You can't always get that in a used car.

I wanted a new JCW with no other option except the "Sport Suspension" and it had to be Chili Red with a black roof, I have had it for four trouble free years and it still looks and runs like the day I bought it.

If a person settles for anything other then what they want they won't be happy no matter how much money they save getting something that will give them "Buyers Remorse"

If they want the JCW, The $6,000 extra is a bargin.

X2....

I’ve had (3) “S" models and now my JCW. Not one regret... AND, if I were to purchase another Mini now, it would be a JCW.

So yep, worth every penny.

JCW all the way. My wife has an S. I thought that I loved it until I got my JCW. It was worth every penny and no regrets. Every day is an absolute joy ride in mine but "just fun" in hers (don't tell her that I said that )

The funny part is it kind of reminds me of a Jeep saying... you know the one that says “it’s a Jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand”

Well, I didn’t know what the big deal is until I bought one and like I said, if I ever do it again, it will be a JCW.

It’s not like it’s night and day difference, just enough to justify the money.

:D
