Pop & Burble

I've searched everywhere it seems like for this, but so far have not found a solution, maybe I didn't use the right keywords or something?? This pop and burble...I want it. Correction. I NEED it! I wish it would magically happen everytime I blip downshift....but it doesnt

Is this something MINI can (or will?) turn on?? By that I mean at a price that most would consider reasonable for something like this. What would that price be maybe?? I'm about ready to call MINI of Concord and ask but I'm curious if anyone else has any success/no-success with this route.

I do have NCSExpert, and I have used it before however I am definitly not an 'expert' with it. I've looked for NCSExpert solutions but haven't really found much here either.

Any other options (at a reasonable cost)?

Sorry but 2008-2010 S turbo cars (not including JCW cars) didn't get pop and burble. Screwed!

I've been looking for pop and burble for quite a while yet to no avail. I held high hopes for the Alta AccessPort being able to give me the pop and burble I wanted but alas, no.

I'm still looking!b

Oh I know it never came with it, that's why I'm trying to find out how to get it. I read MINI starting putting it in the 2012's again and I've wanted it since. I know its in the programming SOMEWHERE. I just don't have the knowledge or means of finding it. Secretly I'm hoping it does it by itself, no luck so far

Not going to happen. So be bummed, kick dirt, and get over it. I love the sound of the '11 or '12 loaners I have had with the sport mode on and pops and burbles but my '09 will never have it :(

It is not going to be an NCS Expert thing you can just turn on. The programming has to do with timing and fuel management, not something you can change yet.

Well maybe you could try removing the resonator I guess?

It's not a mechanical function but that of programming. Altering anything mechanical will not accomplish anything. It was a feature built into R50 and R52 S's (one of the many reasons I will never part with mine). It was recently re-introduced but to get it you have to push a button kinda like a chimp pushing a round green button to get a banana.

A buddy of mine gutted the muffler (most rearward part beside the tips) and I was told the sound was unchanged. The two devices under the car but still after of any sensors might bring more noise but the P&B still needs the ECU program to do it right.

Alta talked about adding it to the Access Port eventually and I think that they will offer it someday. There sure seems to be a market for it, but not until they have an Access Port for 2011 and newer MINIs. I suspect that is where their energy is focused right now.

Man, I don't get these threads. My JCW has really loud popping and burbling, and while it was a cool novelty at first, it's more of an annoyance now.

Maybe I'm just weird...?

Not exactly true. I had the resonator removed from my 2009 MCS and I GET POP AND BURBLE NOW. I had aboslutely none before.

I recommend getting this done for about $50 at your local muffle shop. The sound is noticeable right away but takes about a week to really "break in". Listening to it from the outside of the car and you will get tons of pops and burbles

I just brought home a new '12 clubman S last week and with sport mode on, i don't really hear p&b at all. Do I have to break it in first? My '03 S had tons too.

I have read some people buying parts of the JCW exhaust but you would still be missing the ECU tune.

It's not exactly cheap but you could always save up your pennies and get the JCW kit.

I know this is a little off topic and I don't want to hijack the thread, but walk0080 I noticed you have a 2012 as well. Did you change the oil after the first 1,200 mile break in period?

Ive always heard removing the resonator will accomplish getting the P&B from your MINI. I plan on doing this soon so I'll report back.

get an intake and a good exhaust .. i have tons of pop and burble ... programming your car wont do that or you could take the advice of doing a resonator delete...

Yea I've got an R53, and I've always had pop and burble, but since I removed the resonator, I get MAD pop and burble every single time I shift gears! It's pretty awesome

All you need to do is pound down a double-meat burrito supreme from Taco Bell, with about a half pound of fresh steamed broccoli, and cannonball it back with a Huge Gulp-sized Mountain Dew. You'll hear all the popping & burbling you could ever hope to hear. Might want to carry a respirator for drive and passengers though.

And I don't think you'll ever pass the emissions test.

I'll start a support group since we seem to be among the minority.

I have a '11 MCS and wouldn't shed a tear if I had no pop & burble. 'Novelty' was the perfect word for it IMHO and it got old fairly quickly. Every time I lift off the throttle... Kinda hard to drive by a cop without getting paranoid.

Hmm, at some point Id like to get an intake and invidia q300 exhaust, but that's a ways down the road. I like a little noise feedback that responds to throttle. My uncle has a corvette, and whenever I get in I pull the fuse for the exhaust and while its not really that loud cruising, I absolutely LOVE the sound feedback with changes in throttle, blips, heel-toe-ing, pop & burble under decel. ive watched the videos of the MINI pop & burble and I love it.
