R56 Pop & Burble
I wish in my Mini Connect settings that I could choose which features the Sport button would activate. I'd definitely like to deactivate the P&B on occasion. At the same time, I would like the car to start in Sport mode rather than requiring me to push it every single start up.

To do this, simply install a FES Auto SportPlus Module like I did

Does the JCW Tuning Kit add the pop and burple? I recently drove a '12 coupe S and fell in love with the P&B. I cant really justify getting a new mini when my current '07 R56 has only 37k miles on it. I'd consider the resonator delete, but I dont really want it loud all the time. I definately dont want it to sound like a rice burner.
Yes it does. Although I have read the JCW kit and factory JCW exhaust don't sound exactly alike. Not sure if that is true or if it is really even an issue.
Thanks. Thats where I start getting confused. I've read that too, but I've seen people say that the kit sounds better(inside and/or outside the car) than the factory and vice versa. I dont think a youtube video can provide me with an accurate sound from within the cockpit. I'm kinda leaning towards getting the kit, but would still like to hear what others prefer.
Well, I had a loaner this week and it is a 2011 Couper S and the P&B was awesome. I never knew it existed. So when I came back in I asked the SA and he told me that I have it on my 2009 Clubman S as well since all the programming is up to date (Whatever that mean). It only work in Sport mode and since I got my car for only a few weeks I did you use it that much.
Anyhow, I tried it out on the way home and I can hear it but it is not as loud and strong as the 2011 S. Not sure why at the moment but I know that the loaner has a newer engine N18 i think.

You mean an aggressive camshaft AND poor tuning. But of course it wasn't childish "back in the day" I assume?
I drive a 2010 S and am disappointed that I don't have pop and burble. It adds that little aggressive touch on downshifts and engine braking, instead of the typical boring drone on throttle lift. Sucks that I got screwed out of it by one year.
Here is my childish exhaust noise for everyone's pleasure
After many months of ownership I finally recorded it:

I'd be ecstatic if my '07 S would sound like that. Now to find and compare a jcw tuning kit.

I just got the JCW tuning kit installed on my 2007. It did NOT add any pop although it maybe has a little bit more burble. The exhaust does not sound significantly different after the JCW tuning kit.
I did not use the JCW tuning kit muffler. My car already has just a straight stainless pipe after the cat. No resonators. No mufflers. It's fine for daily driving. It's not loud at all because the turbo is in the way to muffle the exhaust pulses. It's very deep and burbley. It sounds evil.
So you should be fine if you delete the resonator but keep the muffler.
For me, it all started with a cat.
Not an exhaust cat, mind you, but the furry, cuddly quadruped that occasionally roams around Swiss roads. Sadly for the animal in question, it did not take well to meeting my front bumper doing 140 km/h. Nor did the car.
The animal smashed my engine radiator, air con radiator and water pump, causing me to lose all coolant in an instant. By the time I realised, the engine had overheated to such an extent, that I needed a new cylinder head, head gasket and a new turbo. And new radiators and a water pump, obviously. Suffice to say, you could have bought many cats with the budget, it cost to get my car back on the road.
Anyway, apparently when the mechanic did the repairs he also updated the engine management system and suddenly, my 2007 started popping like mad, whenever I let off the accelerator. It sounds glorious!
So, from what I can deduct, it is possible to update the engine software in order to get the much desired exhaust pop. I have asked my Mini garage and they confirm that my car is 100% stock and that no modifications to the exhaust have been made.

Pops...
Once she's warmed up, I noticed I can make pretty good pops by moderately accelerating to about 2500RPM in 2nd or 3rd, ease up on the gas to keep a constant speed for less than a second, then fully let up on the gas to barely start some engine break then push in the clutch to shift... It usually makes a pretty good pop. Sometimes it's pretty loud sounding almost like a backfire. People do tend to notice.. lol
2010 JCW, stock.
2010 JCW, stock.
And that is with the car just sitting around revving. Whole different bunch of fun when the engine is under load. Deep growl at low RPM and almost violent sounding under WOT at higher RPMs.
I also can't seem to get any big pops unless I am driving and they are totally random which makes me smile (and causes my wife to roll her eyes - even though I know she loves it too).
I would be thrilled if a trip to the dealer and a softwear update would give my 07 mcs the pop and burbles........
One problem is that my ONLY dealership for half a days drive is always booked for weeks and they will need to keep the car for a couple of days. Are we certain that the softwear update will work and if so do I just call up and say " update my mini to the most current version ?"

here is my 2011 MCS with resonator delete. I'm alos looking to change the rear muffler soon also and delete the 2nd cat.
the rattling you hear is coming from the A/V Jack in my friends camera:

I never understood what the P & B was all about.
Now I understand why I always think a motorcycle is coming up behind me when I am motoring in Sport mode.
It's only Little Wing!
I haven't heard a pop though.
Good thing too. It would have scared me to death...
Now I want it!

I've got a 2012 MCSa and really enjoy the pop/gurgle in sport mode. Shifting with the paddles and/or letting up off the gas between 2200 and 3000 RPMs depending on the gear can generate a nice pop most often.
Something i've noticed is that as I add more miles to my car (up to about 1k), the pop and gurgle is getting a little more aggressive.
My wife things I'm crazy, but I love making it pop over and over by applying and letting off the accelerator repeatedly!
Love my mini!
