yes i did read the recall but the word 'certain models' thru me off... anyways, i called bmw at 1-866-275-6464 and confirmed that my car is indeed included in the recall. since i bought it used, they didn't have my name registered to the car, so i never got the mail. i got that updated and will receive a letter in the mail near the end of feb for a free water pump replacement till then i'm driving a ticking bomb!

my car's production date is 05/2007.

thanks for the help!

Ahh cool. Seems lots of folks just open the thread and post but don't take the time to look and expect everyone else to just know. Good posting up the phone number, I decided to give it a ring just to make sure. I'd filled out my info in the Owners Lounge on the miniusa site but wanted to confirm. Sure enough, they had my correct info, mine is recalled and a letter is supposedly on the way.

I still haven't gotten a letter regarding this and I supposedly updated my owners information but who knows. I just ended up calling the dealership and setup an appointment with them for the next day. Give them a call and I'm sure they'd be able to get an appointment. Its easy for them to look up if your included (which you are) and from there its just a scheduling effort. No point waiting!

While at Mini a couple of weeks ago for the timing chain replacement they put me on a list and got a call this week for an appointment. Got it done today. I have yet to receive a letter from Mini so for those of you still waiting for a letter, don't wait, it may never arrive. Call your Mini Service Dept and set your appointment.

I contacted my SA last week about getting the water pump done since I haven't had anything come in the mail yet. I set up an appointment and everything was taken care of yesterday. Apparently most dealers got about 100 water pumps already to start taking care of the customers that inquire about it before the official recall paperwork goes out in the mail. Call your service department!

There is NO recall on the timing chain issue. Are you still under warranty? Has yours ever been changed (prior owner??).
Are you having the death rattle caused by the timing chain?

Recall is only for the aux water pump.

Haven't got a recall letter yet (original owner), but called to schedule it, along with (yet another) re-programming of the damn windows. My 48month warranty is over in April, so I wanted to get one more window fix in while it's free. Guess I'll just live with it once it reoccurs.

No but there should be one. If you're still under warranty tell them your timing chain is making noise and they should know what needs to be done. If they care they'll measure your chain and if out of limits they'll replace it.

If it's not making any noise then I wouldn't worry about it. They'll probably charge you to check it if it's not under warranty.

It may never do it. If it's not making the noise now they wouldn't do anything for you anyways.
Just wait it out.

I just replaced the recall water pump on my 2009 MCS. It is like I have been de-tuned. I have lost the kick in the pants feeling. It is smooth going up the gears, but missing the boost. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm the original owner, but still haven't received a notice. I'd heard the dealer had the parts, though, so I made an appointment. Took about 2 hours, including the usual courtesy wash job. An easy fix--just waited for it, rather than getting a loaner.

My Mini service dept went ahead and performed the recall at the same time mine was in for the timing chain replacement last week.

So if someone has a faulty water pump issue, what symptoms are we looking for?

Are you talking about the recall water pump issue or just a possible bad water pump?
The recall issue is related to the electronic part of the pump.
If you think you have a bad water pump you should hear a whine at rev.
I don't think there is a noise associated with the recall issue. If that becomes a problem your car will probably catch fire.

Okay, my check engine light came on Saturday morning and then turned off automatically in the afternoon. On Sunday, my heat stopped working and the car gave me a warning symbol stating that it's heating up. Air would blow out the vent but no heat would come out. If I turn the heat off, I don't get the warnin that the car is heating up. Is this something related to the water pump?

I'm not sure on that one. You might want to repost this in the forums under 2nd gen. and use the stock issues sub-category. May get a faster response.

You have an 07 correct.
Good luck....sometimes it's just the sensor causing issues but I'm not exactly sure.
Maybe in the other forum someone will respond that's had the same issue.

That sounds almost exactly like an air pocket in the cooling system. Bleeding the coolant would be the first step on that.

Question, I had my water pump fail at 55K miles and this recall would have been nice then, do you think there is a chance to recoop money spent on a failed water pump?
