R56 NHSTA MINI 2007- 2011 Recall
Hey that was my first car! Even had Firestone 500 tires on it. Remember the blow out problems?
Build date is 11/10.
Talk about cutting it close....or did I? Recall notice states that the cut-off is October 27, 2010; however, the recall goes on to say that the electro-migration was confirmed the following month in November 2010.
Does anyone know if this means that BMW/MINI fixed the aux. water pump before they actually "confirmed" it?

Have to agree with the others .. a recall on any vehicle doesn't affect resale in any way.. It's just an inconvienience... Hell.. if this were the case, BMW wouldn't sell any motorcycles as EVERY new model has recalls... in some cases.. quite a few... It's just the nature of the beast. They're still the best bikes on the road.
With that said..does anyone have a clue as to how long it takes to replace the auxiliary water pump once it's in the shop? I'll have to drive a few hours to my closest dealer to get my recall done.. and unless they provide a loaner..I'll probably wait for it... Does anybody know?
BTW...Ordinarily I pull mine in the garage every day.. every night. Until the part is replaced, I'm gonna let it cool down a few hours BEFORE rolling it inside..

The Aux water pump only runs after you shutdown the enging and the main water pump is no longer circulating water through the turbo for cooling. The electric pump keeps water and I believe your oil moving though the turbo for while after you shut it off to keep the oil from coking or burning due to the turbo being hot from running. The water keeps running for while to help cool down the turbo. In the old days you were told to let your car idle for while after hard or fast driving before shutting it down to help let the turbo cool down some from hot running. The fire sounds like that when the electric motor kicks in that's when you can have an electrical fire, after the engine is off. You can hear a little winne for a few min after you shut off the engine.....normal.
You're right. Last night after some stop and go driving in town with mild winter weather at about 35* my pump was on after the car was turned off for about 5 minutes.

Just out of curiosity... If the recall letters are supposed to go out in February (which I read in one of the news articles and has no bearing on the truth of when they go out), do y'all think our vehicles will be able to get fixed in time to go to MINIS ON THE DRAGON????
I just really don't want the Dragon to be breathing fire this year, if you catch my drift!

Today will be day 3 of the repairs at my dealership. By the time I got there around 2:30pm I was the 10th car for the day to get it done. So it could be worth a call it go ahead and get it done before the letter, if they will let you.
Thanks for the heads up. I've got my scheduled for tomorrow morning. I'm certainly happy to see this taken care of and glad they're able to take care of it before I even got the mailings.
The dealer ran my VIN and up popped the notice. They made an appointment to take my car in tomorrow morning, and offered up a loaner as well. I'm fortunate to have a consistently great dealer close to home.
Called my dealer also, he said they have no replacement parts yet. Week or so maybe.
Also gave me a nice reassured feeling when he said "Don't park in your garage" why? "In case the car starts on fire" WTF!!! (Why The Face)!!!
Damn recalls anyways.

I hadn't received my letter yet, but when I dropped mine off at Hendrick MINI in Charlotte for his free oil change, they went ahead and took care of it for me. It's comforting to know I won't go out in my driveway and find him ablaze this evening.
Yetti, would you happen to have the P/N for the new pump?
