Check engine

I have a P2477 fault code and a half full amber check engine light.
Does anyone know this code and will pulling the battery clear the light?

pulling the battery won't clear the light. Find someone with a scangauge or similar to clear the fault.

Google says that P2477 is Exhaust Gas Temp Circuit is erratic. Sounds like an O2 sensor.

That's a generic code, but I'll look it up when i get home in my Bentley manual

I just checked my Bentley Manual, and it doesn't even have a P2477 code. Are you absolutely sure that it was P2477?

Even still, there is a generic code that I found on Google that says it's an Exhaust Gas Temperature Circuit Intermittent/Erratic. This interesting, as I don't believe that the R56 monitors Exhaust Gas Temperature (it sorta can in a roundabout way, via the cat temp sensor, but this isn't the same thing.

I would guess that your second O2 sensor is going south.

Basically your car's exhaust system has two O2 sensors, one immediately after the turbo, and the second one after the primary catalytic converter (the MCS has two cats). The first one is the most important, as it relays information to the ECU about whether the mixture is too lean or too rich. The second O2 sensor just makes sure that the catalytic converter is doing its job.

I guess i'll have to wait and see if the empty check engine light comes on again? My biggest problem now is the half full amber check engine dummy light an acutron scanner pulled the dreaded P115C code on earlier threads it's been figured as a MAF cleaning issue. I cleaned it and cleared the code but the light won't go off and the acutron says no codes found?

So you have a CEL and the scanner isnt picking anything up? Crikey.

Maybe have to find a BMW dealer and ask them to read it.

I hate to offload the car but i think i might just have to. This is annoying and plain odd to have ghost lights. I don't care to drive two and a half hours to have a dummy light figured out on an out of warranty car. :/

Take it to a BMW specialist. Someone who knows what they're doing. (Not a BMW dealer, 90% of them are ridiculous)
