Will holes in hood scoop help?

Hello

It is my understanding that the hood scope on the 2010 S is for show but does not flow any air to the engine. Would it be a good idea to dremel out some holes in the plastic fake intake to provide air to the engine and keep the hood cooler?

Thanks
Mark

My 2010 has about half the holes in the scoop open, it came that way when I bought it new.

I read a post here in which the poster measured the under hood temperatures before and after he opened up all the holes in the hood scoop, and there was a significant reduction in under hood temperatures.

my 2010 has half of the holes open and I can tell it vents to the top of the engine. it also lets water in and gets the motor wet...so not sure how good that is...

If yours didn't have holes and you dremel holes in it they'll give you hell if you need it replaced under warranty if it warps...

I purchased one of these can't wait to get installed.

Or even better yet one of these.

Or simply remove the honeycomb mesh insert, from the hood scoop, very simple to do.

Guess what your front grill lets in even more water and that gets all over the engine as well.

Mine is fully open and the heat reduction is definitely worth it.

As long as your not sucking in an ocean of water a little bit will be ok. Some of it makes its way up there now even with out the holes being bored out. I can't tell you how many times when it was raining that I thought I blew up my MINI, water would run onto the heat shield an steam up and it looked like it was smoking.

I removed my hood scoop grill completely. Definitely allows more air in. My motor was suprizingly clean after a nice cruise through a rain storm.

I opened up all of my holes and wish I had done it sooner. No more melted hood scoop.
