How much power can the automatic transmission in an R56 handle?

I'm getting ready to start doing some mods to my MCSa and wondering what kinda power the transmission really can handle with out crapping out too soon.

I'm not sure, but in my case the ECU will shut the engine down almost like the limp mode. I far as I can find out nobody can reflash the tranny ECU that would allow the engine to go over the factory red line so it could develope mort HP. I have just about everything you can get and on a dyno all I can get is a little over 200 HP and about 190 TQ. But don't stop trying.

To my knowledge no one has reached or found the limit of the auto transmission yet. With that said, I am dyno tuned and am making close to 200 whp and around 218 torque on my auto without any major problems yet.

At what RPM and on what type of dyno did you get those numbers? I only improved about 25 HP and 20 lbs TQ after adding a head, cam. I've been told that the tranny can handle about 280 lbs of TQ, but I don't know about the HP. I don't think it's a problem with thr tranny it's the ECU that is the problem and no one knows how to tune it for the automatic.

This might be a stupid question, but is your car and R53? Because comparing an R56 to an R53 is like comparing apples to oranges.

Why, don't they both use the same GA6F21WA transmission?

I think so, but if he is talking about hp and torque increase on two different engines than they are not comparable.

He's asking how much power the transmission can handle.
A modded prince engine vs an unmodded one is more apples and oranges
than a stock prince vs. tritec (or a modded prince vs. modded tritec for
that matter).

I have an R53 with the same tranny you have. The differance between the engines does not mattter it's the tranny ECU that matters. As far as I can tell all of the high HP cars either R53's os R56's develope thier power at high RPMs and thr tranny will not let that happen. If your car was dynoed what was the max RPM would your get to before it shifted? Mine will only go to 6600 acording to the dyno. My limiter for the engine ECU was raised to 7500, but the tranny still shifts at a lower RPM (about 6800)

My car was dynoed on a Dynojet and it looks like most of the power was made around 5500 RPM. I attached my dyno sheet. Hopefully that will answer some of your questions. Also note that the dyno was reading about 10%-15% low that day.
