R56 Second MINI, first post!
Second MINI, first post!
Hey all,
We just got our second MINI last month, a 2011 MINI Cooper S! The lease on our first MINI, a 2008 Oxygen Blue Justacooper ran out so we decided on a Cooper S this time. Well I decided that about two years ago, but the time finally came. When we got our justa, I never expected to fall in love with the MINI so completely. I certainly was interested in the car but while the car was really my partner's daily driver, it quickly became mine. From that moment forward I knew our next MINI would be an S.
We picked her up off the lot from dealer inventory, but she is more than we could have expected. She is Chili Red/Black with Sport, Premium, and every option in the convenience package except comfort access. She has black wheels and the blacked out head lamps outside, and black seats, anthracite headliner and rooster red color line inside.. she's a beauty.
Here is the first picture we took of her:

We had been planning to mod her since before we got her and with the overwhelming black and red color scheme inside and out we decided to start by performing a black out.
My best friend (also a MINI owner) came down to visit and made the following mods about two weeks after getting her:
Black Bonnet Stripes
Black Hood Scoop (a gift from my friend)
Beltline black out
Plasti-dipped:
Stubby Antenna (another gift from my best mate!)
We think she looks pretty good with all the black out done:

Still more mods are planned. This weekend she gets her windows tinted and possibly her tail lamp lenses. We are also considering an ALTA Cold Air Intake system. Any suggestions would be welcome!

We did do the work ourselves. It was not hard but I had my best mate who had done it before and truth be told he did most of the work. It was fairly easy to get most of the chrome off and I found plenty of videos/instructions on the web (you tube). The plasti-dip is just spray paint. It dries pretty quick (about a half hour) and we did 4 coats on each piece. One word of advice be careful pulling the pieces off the news paper
Good Luck

Search the work plasti-dip (with or w/o the hyphen) It is about $6-$7 a can it's a fun, awesome, and totally revisable product.

Yes for 2011 you can get black Xenon housings. I also got the white turn signals and the head lamp washers
Thanks! My friend is amazing and does a really good job. I keep telling him he should go into business!
