2011 MCS Reading Lamps

Has anyone ever had their READING LAPS (both) turn on by themselves?
Mine have done it 4-5 times and I finally THINK I have the sequence of events down to show the MINI Dealer.
- I pull the car into the garage
- I do NOT use the unlock the door feature, I get out of the car and close the door
- So only the driver’s door is now unlocked now.
- Few hours later, I ATTEMPT to open the BOOT manually (without the remote) using the button above the license plate.
- I doesn’t open as it’s locked (duh), but I hear something ‘going on’ with the car. Click noises and such…
- I open the driver door and… THE READING LAPS turn on!
- They don’t go off unless I flip each switch

Now I have tried this sequence right after getting out of the car and it doesn’t happen. Thus far, it’s always been after about 2 hours that I remember to go back into the car to get my gym bag.

Anyone else notice this happening? Give it a try and see if it happens – would be interested in knowing.

Yes, I just saw this yesterday actually and I went a bit crosseyed. Pretty much the same steps, as I recall. I had left the keys in the ignition though.

Does it only do it with that sequence? I found the map lights on at least twice the first week I had it, but havn't since. I'll try to replicate those events tonight when I have some time.

After installing LEDs in the reading lamps there seems to be a trickle voltage going to those lights all the time. I can get a stand by voltage if you guys want it.

I've had this happen s well. Not often but every once in while it happens. No idea what the sequence is but, usually its after dropping my kids off at some practice.

I almost never open the door w/ unlock, and quite often we do attempt to open boot when its still locked. So its possible I've performed a sequence similar to what you describe.

why would a specific sequence of movements or actions in your mini cause the driving lights to go off ??
