My MINI onboard computer data reset and door open button problem

Hi Everyone,

I've recently notice that my Mini Cooper S 2008 is acting strangely in terms of On Board computer data and Door open button. Whenever I start the car, clock and trip odometer is reset automatically so I have to enter time every time. It's so annoying. Trip odometer is always beginning from zero again. I don't know what's going on with my car.
I also notice that whenever I try to open the door by pushing button on the handle, it won't open, so I have to use my remote key to open. Sometime it opens, but most of time it won't. So I thought it might be due to low battery, so whenever I dry, I push the key in the key **** so that it will be recharged while driving. However, this problem won't go away.

Is there any solution for this? Do I have to contact dealership to discuss these problems? These are small annoying problem, not causing any danger in driving, but it is really annoying me.

Thank you everyone.

So you have comfort access? I don't but I am sure someone who does will chime in soon. I don't know if this will answer your issue, but I thought the comfort access fob battery was not re-chargeable and when dead had to be replaced.

Yes, I have Comfort Access option. Only I have to is to have FOB key in my pocket to open and start the engine. It's very very convenient. I'll look into FOB battery. After I replace FOB battery, if I see everything normal, I can conclude that it's due to low FOB battery. If condition continues, I need to research more. :-)
Thank you so much for your input. I really appreciate it.

The comfort access key fob battery is not rechargeable. There is no benefit to putting it in the receiver on the dash. Simply replace the battery in the key fob by removing the back cover on the key fob. I would think that should clear the problem.

Sounds like your car's battery is failing based on the clock and trip odometer reset.

Just had a similar issue with mine, but mine just was not keeping my settings. Replaced the battery and all is well again.

Quick update,
I just received a phone call from my dealership, and he said it's due to low car battery. He told me that I have to change car battery (not FOB battery). Is there anyone who know the good car battery for 2008 Mini Cooper S?
I found one from Advance Auto Shop costing about $128 (brand name is Autocraft Gold battery).

Any recommendations?

So this means that I don't need to change battery? Can I just buy battery charger, and charge my existing battery overnight or two nights? This will refresh my battery?
I'm so new to battery in my car, so wonder how it works. Some people say that if I don't use car (I drive about 5000 miles per year), battery will go down to reserve, which eventually damage the battery.
Some people say that if battery is recharged, it will be fine.

If I have to change my battery, I want to go with $225 dollar Braille battery, but wonder how to install it in my 2008 Mini Cooper S. Do I have to buy all neccessary bracket and tools?

Thank you everyone.

Auto zone battery should be fine. You can try charging, but your battery maybe "dead" due to low charge over a period of time.

If you don't drive a lot you may want to invest in a battery tender. About $25 at Walmart or auto parts store. It connects to the battery and will keep it topped up and in good condition between infrequent trips.

I am not sure where you are, but it you have an Auto Zone nearby, I have always had good luck with their batteries. If you take your car or battery to Auto Zone, they can test it and tell you the condition. If the battery's bad, their batteries are reasonably priced and as a good as any other battery on the market. Best of all, their warranty is honored at all Auto Zones and they keep track of it on their computers. For example, we took a battery that was bad into Auto Zone a few years ago, and they recognized it as one of their's and found my information in their computer database from 3 or 4 years previously. They replaced the battery for free under warranty. I was pleasantly surprised because I didn't even remember purchasing that battery from Auto Zone.

I just spoke to Braille sales rep, he recommended Lithium Battery. He said he could give me a deal total of $900 for 4 lb battery with mounting bracket and shipping. :-)
Any how, where is the battery located for 2008 Mini Cooper S? Will it be easy to remove and replace? Thank you everyone.
