R56 Key Fob Holder/Sleeve?

Didn't see a thread on this, but do correct my if I'm wrong...

Anyone know of a sleeve or holder into which the R56 key fob can be slipped/tucked, made perhaps from leather or neoprene? Looking for ways to ensure that the fob doesn't get marred by the occasional coin or key sharing the same pocket. My old Subie fobs got pretty thrashed over the years, and I'm lacking sufficient confidence, and chromosomes, to carry a purse.

I've seen some Mercedes Benz fob covers/holders/sleeves, but of course there's no way they'll fit around the MINI UFO.

Thoughts?

Good question. After a little over a year, my fob has had most of the chrome worn off the edges by other keys on my ring.

Trouble is, you'd have to remove a fob cover every time you use the fob in the car. Much as I'd like to keep my fob looking like new, that might be more trouble than it's worth for some.

Cheers,

Removing the cover depends on if the OP has Comfort Access (CA) or not. If they have CA then there is no need to take the key out of the cover as you don't have to take the key our of your pocket.

As for if they do not have comfort access. Then yes removing the cover each time could be considered a problem. But then again having it rubbing on the inside of a leather case is going to wear down the chrome as well. So as i see it you will still have the same problem from a leather case. but neoprene may be a different story it is not as rough as the leather would be.

But back to the OP's question. No i have never seen a Key Fob cover for the MINI.

I bought another type from ebay before Christmas that doesn't seem to be available at the moment.

"Japan Quality"..... Made in Japan used to mean it was junk. For $37 shipped that must be some sweet key holder.

If the price doesn't scare you away...you can buy a metal key FOB surround from the dealer to replace the cheap plastic that the chrome is flaking off.

Even with comfort access, you have to put the fob in the ignition every once in a while to charge the battery. You should use both keys every now and then.

No.

Comfort access FOBs have a non-rechargable user replaceable button-cell battery. When the battery gets low a warning on the tach will appear.

Cool!! Do you have a picture of it by any chance?? It is $20.16 at parts.com versus the crappy plastic one 61313449599 for $8.16.

If I read the description on the parts page link above, does that mean the 2011 keys have the metal part rather than plastic. Anyone with a 2011 want to take a look.

Well, I've got a 2011, and my key fob does have a metallic ring around it - it looks like it's wearing like metal, and it feels super smooth and doesn't dent like even chromed plastic (i.e., it doesn't dent). Could be wrong but looks like what's on mine.

I just had my tires rotated and asked the service guy about the new metal piece on the FOB. He asked if i would like one. It is actually metal and adds a little more weight to the key but it looks 100% better. And it was free while still under warranty.

The chrome ring pops off, you could wrap in vinyl - color of your choice, then put it back on. I am gonna do it to mine soon since most of the chrome skin is coming off.
