Auto: Sport vs shifter-sport vs both

Who can describe well the effects of:
sport button alone "sport"
shifter in sport/manual "ds"
both

I also notice that sometimes paddle shifting helps maintain gears...

Both the same...sport button alone allows the car to shift for you, in DS manual) you control the shifting (but it'll still shift if you redline without shifting). Some people complain of the slight delay in the shifting sequence of manual mode...it's there but doesn't bother me personally. In DS, I'll hammer it and my shift point is 5000 rpm, when the car shifts after the slight delay I'm at 5500 rpm, sweet spot for max HP and Torque.

1. Sport button in sport mode. Auto in DS mode. Faster throttle response & stiffer power steering. Paddle shifters will override auto for around 5 seconds, then it will return to DS.

2. Shifter in M/S. Auto in DS mode. Use Paddle shifters will change tranny to manual mode. Use of shifter UP/DOWN will change tranny into manual mode (to cancel move shifter lever back to D).

3. Both: Power steering stiffer, faster throttle, tranny in DS mode and paddle shifters and shifter stick will change tranny to manual mode.

No 6th gear w/ Sport alone. You can override with the paddles, but it will downshift after 5 secs.

No it won't, it'll stay in 6th if you use the paddles or the shifter. It'll have 5 gears only if SD mode is selected but not paddles/shifter used.

I agree... in sport mode only (automatic shifting) it will not hold 6th gear. It is sort of annoying really

I rarely get into 6th gear, usually when Im either feeling like a penny-pinching miser, mpg-wise, or at the track over 100 mph. 5th is actually pretty tall.

when I'm in M mode the paddles allow me to shift at will; the only time it will downshift is when I'm slowing down, like for a light, and the tranny will kick into 2nd.
