Shift Indicator

Hi guys!!!
Just a quick question regarding the indicator. Why does it tell me to shift so early. This causes the car to start shaking and getting ready to stall... When I ignore the shift indicator, and shift at 2500rpm (instead of around 2000 rpm) the obc shows that its more efficient (ie uses less gas) and the shuttering stops... Is there a problem with the program?

The shift indicator is limp. Don't pay any attention to it. It's supposed to save you money in gas. Riiiiight.

I don't understand this post, why would anyone want to shift at 2000 rpm or even at 2500? I might want to shift down at those rev's but never up.

Remind me not to buy your car 2nd-hand!!

Under normal conditions, flat roads, etc, shifting between 2000 - 2500 will result in good acceleration (you can only go as fast as the bumber in front of you!) and good fuel efficiency. If you remember, the torque band for the Mini is extremely wide and delivers a good amount of power even at low ranges.

If you prefer to wind it out more, enjoy yourself and the lower fuel efficiency, and yet you can still only go as fast as the bumper in front of you.

Most days, I admit to playing my own little game of hyper fuel-efficiency, trying to stay above 38mpg. And then some days I just drive the hell out of it in full "game mode" and have a blast and kill all my conservation attempts...
FUN! But I do understand the trade-off.

Since I don't have a JCW, or a shift indicator, I guess this may not answer your question directly, but I'd advise you just to have fun with my previous points in mind.

If I'm driving relaxedly and for fuel economy, shifting at 2000 RPM works just fine for me... it drops to around 1700 RPM without any shuddering. I get the best fuel economy this way--I run about 6.3L/100km in hilly city traffic. If I'm going uphill or the traffic is heavy, I shift at about 2500 - 3000 RPM, and if I'm in it for fun... 4500 RPM will suffice.

How far does the RPM drop when you shift? Maybe you're taking too long to shift, or releasing the gas pedal too early.

My point is--shifting at 2000 RPM should be just fine...

The little shift indicator on the OBC... It has two arrows and it's supposed to tell you what gear is the optimum choice for fuel economy.

found this video some days ago... I was a bit fizzled by that shift indicater..

however this included in 2010 models I believe... think... guess... because mine 2009 S doesn't have it

btw shifting at 2k is alright, no shuttering, although just make sure you don't get under 1.5k or it will stutter at bit when you give it gas.
