Ive decided that my spark plugs needed changing, so bought some bosch super4's. i have a 10mm spark plug wrench, will this also get the standard plugs out?

Why do you think your spark plugs need changing?

IIRC, changing the spark plugs is not a simple matter.

What makes you say that?

IIRC, there is a coil over each spark plug, and I thought I read something about a special tool being required to remove the coil without braking something.

Plugs should last years, allegedly 100,000 miles. If you have a problem, get it diagnosed before replacing parts that probably are fine. If you do not know the two standard car spark plug wrench sizes, (and I bet the Mini takes the smaller but have no specs) maybe you should not be replacing your plugs. 10MM is the size for a 2 cycle leaf blower spark plug, not a car. Have you replaced spark plugs before? You have to be careful regarding the proper tightening torque, thread stripping, applying anti-seize (always a good idea) . Those Bosch plugs with 4 prongs have received very mixed reviews at other car sites. I would not use them. Get your car diagnosed first.

The coil is generally easy to remove as it is sitting on top and it is a bolt. But the spark plugs requires a deep thin wall spark plug socket because it is buried inside the hole. From experience, I can tell you to make sure you can "lock" the long extension bar properly to the socket. Otherwise, you will be spending some time trying to get socket out as well.

Which Mini is this?

I am not sure I would change the NGK iridiums out for Bosch super 4s.

I read that the r56 engine takes a 14mm 12point sparkplug socket to remove the plug . The coils just lift out.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the spark plug coils out of the way so I can replace my spark plugs?

Is it just pull it out with brute force, or is there a unlatching method before I can pull it out. I can not figure it out. I'm tempted to just yank it out outward. I have a strong hand but the last thing I want to do with it is to break anything in my Mini. Please advise.

On top of the coils, Lift the clips to remove the wire. Then pull up on the coils to remove.
