Metallic Black/Mellow Yellow?

Hi All!

Tomorrow I'm finally purchasing another mini cooper. I had an '04 PW one that I had numerous problems with and got rid of in '07. I'm finally ready to give Mini another try..I loved my car so much!!

It's a toss up between Mellow Yellow or Metallic Black. Both of these cars are available at the dealership with all the features I want on them. What's your thoughts?????

Is the Metallic Black a pain to keep clean and does it show every scratch? How about the Mellow Yellow.

I'm also nervous about the negotiating part of buying..should I ask for any freebies? I definitely want floor mats and a armrest would be great! Any suggestions would be great....

Glad to soon be back...........

Well, Mellow Yellow is going away, so if you don't get it, and down the road decide you want it, you won't be able to get it new. Something to chew on.

Go look at the colors. I would never have considered ordering Mellow Yellow, but for luck of seeing one, then it was no other color for me.

Nice set of floor mats were thrown in after deal was made, pleasant surprise.

You should expect $500 less for non-metalic MY to start with, end of month is usually when you can get the best deal on an inventory car.

You would need to close by Tuesday night to save the dealer another month's floor-plan fee and get him any June quota points for the deal.

As you know, they like to hold you at MSRP, but deals can be done if you play the game well. (Never let on that you are 'sold' and be ready to 'walk'. Walk on Monday and they will likely call you Tuesday, if they don't, you have not lost anything.)

Tough decision... I don't think you can go wrong with either. I say go for the all black Mini and lower it with a nice stance with some proper rims...

I would get black but I could never really see myself in a yellow car. Yes, black will show every bit of dirt, dust, water spots, paint swirls, etc. It will pretty much look dirty an hour after washing it. If you don't want to deal with with that then Mellow Yellow is probably the way to go.

I have never desired to own a yellow car and then out of every color on the lot I took to Mellow Yellow really well. It's not for everyone, but I really enjoy being flashy with my Mellow Yellow and black bonnet stripes. Black rims would be rather nice one day It looks pretty clean still after not being washed for a week so it's not a bad choice for the lazy too. I'm not sure if you're allowed to admit that around here though haha.

I think I'd go for all black. If you go yellow, I'd go for yellow on yellow.

As for keeping it scratch free, if you can wash it yourself, you can avoid getting any scratches with the proper gear.

Yellow. Visible to other traffic, fits the personality of the MINI. You can try to make the MINI look like a black Mercedes, but...

Good point Robin. I'd usually refrain from buying a yellow sports car too, but for the Mini, why not? Minis are supposed to be fun. I just like how M3This' black JCW turned out a lot, but I still love my MY/MY combo.

Being in the bodyshop business, I get to see what happens to black paintjobs. I think they look GREAT when they are clean but what a pain.

When I bought my new mini, my choices were astro black and mellow yellow. I hadn't considered yellow but knowing what it takes to keep black clean, I decided on the yellow.

As much as I like what the black looks like, I'm glad I went yellow.

Great choice....

Yes there is, read your owner's manual. My break-in was 200 ginger miles around town, 355 more miles to the track. 200 miles at the track. 355 miles back home.

Best break-in I've ever done.

Where is the cheapest aftermarket part store??

Thanks!
There are lots of places to buy mini stuff. You're not going to find a "cheapest" store. The old adage you get what you pay for is true and sometimes you end up paying more than you'd lilke because like Corvettes, Hummers, Harleys, etc, etc, you're buying specialized parts.

Check on the forums, I think if you search a bit about any particular mod, you'll find what will be best for you and you'll end up where you need to be...

Car looks great OrangeCrush... After seeing pics of your car before, I went ahead and color matched my chrome rings and grill too. BTW, does the lower grill piece just "snap" into place? I know the top part of the grill has snap in and has screws to hold it in place, but when I uninstalled my lower grill, it just popped off and is held rather loosely in place. Can you just let me know if that's the norm?

My stock lower grill is the same way, just snapped into place (at least at the bottom part). That reminds me that I need to pop it back into position; I found it pushed in during the last car wash, but I didn't have anything to make a hook out of so I could reach in through the grillwork and pull it back out.

BTW: I'm another MY convert. My initial color preferance was BRG, but when I saw that in person I decided it was too dark.
