R56 Short shifter
Short shifter
I was shopping around for a short shifter and i noticed that on all of them that you leave the dust cover off of the bottom on the shift box. Would this cause any problems down the road?
i dont think so, i have driven numerous vehicles back in the days, that , factory werent providing their shifter linkage with any covers, years of use and abuse later, nothing ever happened. I actually just installed an Alta shifter, and left my cover off aswell...did i mention that the exhaust shield adds a signifcant amount of protection from any weather elements and road debris?
The Alta SSK is awesome. I had it on my R50. But it does sit kind of low.
In regards to leaving the cover off... I left mine off for about 3 years and never had any issues related to it. There is a guy on here who modified the cover by cutting a hole out of the cover and putting a rubbermaid container on with epoxy.
You might want to look at a Helix. Easy to install, and it won't lower the height of the shifter.

Resting your hand on the shifter issue: Your not supposed to honestly
. By resting your hand on the shifter while driving you create a force or tension on the linkages which infact affect the longevity of the synchros in the transmission.
