Question about build year

So the Cooper S I plan on buying this weekend is considered an 07. When I looked at the build date inside the door and it said 07/07. Now I know that it would make an 07 car but wouldn't that make it and 08 model year?

The model year tends to change over in September, so no.

Yeah, I ordered my 2008 in late August 2008... MINI does year changes late! I remember a Nissan being a 2009 in January or February of 2008... now that doesn't make sense!

So does this mean my 10/07 build R56S is actually an '08? The window sticker says 2007. Can anyone verify?

You can check the 10th digit of your VIN to be certain (should be a '7'), but I'm pretty sure you have a 2007. I'm not positive when the factory changes over from one model year to the next, but I think it's closer to late October, rather than September.

That, combined with the shipping time to get the cars here and the time spent at the VPC means that you don't get a lot of 200'X' MINIs running around on the streets until it's actually 200'X'.

It kind of makes sense from a psychological marketing standpoint. If you can buy a "2009" model in early 2008, then the car is going to seem "new" for almost two years. Conversely, if it's late 2008 and you're buying a new 2008 model when most of the manufacturers have had the 2009 models on the lots for 2-3 months, it's almost as if your car's a year old the minute you drive it off the lot.

Hey, if it means SC "depreciates" my MINI more so I don't have to pay so much in property tax, I'm fine with it.

I have a 2006 MCSC leased. My lease is up in August. I do not want to get a cabrio this time. Is there a cutoff for ordering a Coupe? I know with the cabrio they could only order so many.

None that I've heard of. There was an issue with ordering cabrios back when they were doing the retooling for the new models but that only applied to the cabrios and is now not an issue since the new models are out.

Place the order, there shouldn't any issues.
