Six speed manual transmission question?

Does the shifter use cables or actual shift linkage for shifting???
My JCW sure shifts nice and it feels very positive. My guess is it uses linkage but I could be wrong.

Yes, the R53 uses cables, you can see them in the engine bay by removing the airbox. In regards to the R56, not sure. I'm sure someone else knows or you'd have to poke around a bit...

I have the R56

My car is a 2009 JCW R-56. It shifts so nice that I can't tell what the linkage would be.

I thought all manual transmissions had a direct linkage down to the gearbox.

Cars have note used cables for clutch engaging/disengage for quite a while.

MINIspud IS correct, the clutch linkage is not cable based. only the shift linkage is.

clutch linkage is part 1:

Wow

I would not have thought it shifted using cables because it really shifts firm and precise.
Thanks for the parts layout.

wheres the middle finger smiley oakland?

Woops, i guess i should have read more precisely. I thought he was referring to his foot and how it feels to engage/disengage at the clutch. He did actually specify the shifter. The shifter is butter to me too. And the diagrams show the cables..
