MINI Cooper w/cupholder GPS

Just purchased a GPS (Navigon) for my 2007 Mini Cooper. I experimented and followed several links on line to find an ideal, for me, way to mount system without a lot of dangling wires and obstructions...couldn't find anything I liked. I am offering my idea up to you because it is entirely inexpensive and easy to make. First of all buy or find a metal cup that fits your Mini's cup holder and will accept the mount that comes with your gps unit. if it fits tightly inside the rim GREAT! I then added additional weight inside the cup to keep it standing straight and screwed 3 small metal screws into the side of cup into the mount base to hold the GPS in well. By the way, the cigar lighter is in the perfect place on the mini to plug the unit in. Have fun and good GPS'ing.

Dude, can you fill that up with coffee? I just imagine you might put your eye out with the GPS when you try to take a sip...

By the way, where did you take this photo? A studio? It looks incredibly well-lit...

Thanks for the idea. I took it in another direction as I like my Nuvi suction cupped to the right side of the speedometer glass/pie plate. My I-pod, however, is a mass of dangling wires since I use the Belkin charger/aux jack interface to either play it through my radio or run headphones/ear buds ( a better $35 alternative to the $300 I-pod dealer interface). Now it sits securely on top of an 8" coffee cup within easy reach and all the wires are inside the cup (I drilled a hole into the back side of it). I still have the cup holder on the passenger side and installed a splitter on the single 12vdc cigarette lighter to run both the I-pod and GPS.

My GPS suction mounts right on the speedo just fine, the wire drops straight down to the socket. Perfect location, that's where the factory NAV goes iPod on the tray under the ebrake or in a handy cupholder thingy from Belkin (no charger).

I made the mistake of buying a TomTom GPS. I'm finding it to be not so user friendly, taking it back for a Garmin. You ingenious us of a travel mug is pretty cool.

For a even cleaner look...find a small can...from canned tuna or one of those air freshener cans. Clean it out. Stick that black circular piece of plastic that comes with the GPS on the can. Stick the can in the cup holder and just mount your GPS... I did this for both my GPS and my iPhone dock...I'll have pics up later...
