Wheel Weight and Handling / Comfort

On a new MCS the 16 inch S-Winders wheels weigh about 17.4 lbs and the optional Bridge Spoke wheels weigh about 20 lbs.

Assuming both had the same 16 inch runflat tires, would their be a difference in handling, comfort, or harshness of ride for regular suburban, city/highway driving?

Would any difference be quite noticable if first driving a MCS with S-Winders and than Bridge Spoke or would it be a minor difference and negligible to most drivers.

Thanks, Finner

unsprung weight is huge for handling and ride comfort as well...get the lightest wheels possible as long as they're strong.

Thanks, wasn't sure if 3 lbs a wheel made a significant difference, though I thought it probably did. I tend to like the look of the Bridge Spoke slightly more than the S-Winder wheels, but sounds like overall I'll enjoy the handling and comfort of a MCS with S-Winders more.

That kind of makes the S winders best choice by far. Ya gotta really like the look of the Bridge Spoke alot over the S-Winders to sacrifice adding about 3.5 lbs per wheel.

I think he is asking if 3lbs is a huge difference for regular driving... I mean, would it be noticeable like a different sway bar?

I'd like to know as well, since I'm switching to 17" that are a full five lbs less than my heavy stock 17"s. Hopefully it does!

Noegel,
That's exactly what I was asking originally. And from the responses it seems that the handling is somewhat noticable but in regular driving not real significant. At least that's what I'm surmizing out of the feedback from those that know. I'm figuring that over time of ownership, I would be better off with the lighter S-Winders because though I like the look of the Bridge Spoke just slightly better, the stock S-Winders look good and lighter is better.

I liked the look of the B.S's over the S-Winders and went B.S. I've driven a loaner with the S-Winders and didn't really notice a difference.

True...it's a little tougher in general b/c we have lug bolts and not lug nuts...either way you're using your knees to lift the wheel up and hold in place to tighten...
