R56 random q's
random q's
2 - does anyone know the approximate performance specs (0-60 ; 1/4mile) for the r56 with the jcw tuning kit? (not the john cooper works mini)
3 - will the unichip be compatible with the jcw tuning kit, as i understand that included with the kit, the ecu has already been fenagled with.
i apologize for the 3 very different q's. but i just didint want to start 3 different threads either. =P
thanks all.
btw, a ferrari pulled up next to me at a light. the driver smiled and told me his other car is a cooper s and he loves it very much.
I know the GTI has a few more ponies under the hood (50+) and a few more pounds (900+) under the roofline so it evens out (kinda). Should be a great race and might even come down to the launch and how quick your shifting.
You have to be objective, our MINI's are not race cars, as much as I am looking forward to motoring in my MINI, they should not be purchased in hopes of buying a valid street (or track) racer. None of the optioned MINI's are producing sub 6 second times for 0-60 so we've got to be realistic.
If you can get him on the highway you'll eventually take him, his top end is only 130. (unless either of you flashed.)

There's always someone out there faster than you. Don't let numbers distract you from enjoying your car.
Mods are fun, I drive a modified Mustang, but if you chip yours he can chip his and beat you, ad nauseam. In the straight line, in the long run displacement usually wins in a modding war.

The VW your friend has, has a better power to weight ratio than your and my Mini cooper S, ...yet if you've modified your Mini, you may have a better power to weight ratio,

slinger,
the statement in my first sentence states that the VW has a better power to weight ratio,
my second sentence states that all bets are off once you start modifying engines on these two closely matched cars.
I really don't care which is faster to be honest. But speaking stock cars the VW is faster.

Wait... if your MINI Cooper S is capable of 6.5s 0-60 stock (if you have an amazing launch, etc)...
You are telling me that an ECU flash, an exhaust, and a CAI is going to get you less than half a second more?
That would be hardly noticeable.... but people add on a simple CAI and say they notice a large difference. I don't know... I've not yet modded this car yet, but it seems hardly worth the money.

to question 1, car preference is very personal and if your friend bough a VW, thats his decision.
if you have a rear sway and better tires, you'll get your friend in the twisties.
the other 2 questions i know nothing about.

1- It couldn't be a new R32, R32 have stopped being produced for 2009 with the upcoming R20 being released soon (2010 maybe). That being said the R32 is not called a GTI just a Golf R32, there is a MKIV (2004) version and an MKV (2008) version, both having similar performance numbers and basically the same 3.2 VR6 (250hp 236lbs/tq) engine along with Haldex AWD. MKV is a bit faster because of DSG, iirc the 0-60 is like 5.8 sec. Threatend? Absolutely, its faster car with better traction.

Yah, I really got nothing to add. DSG is definitely amazing though. Dual wet clutch. My 06 New Beetle TDI had it. It was SLICK.
