Anyone else have the rear boot storage box?

I have it, and I use it, but when I hit a few bumps, that thing tends to bounce and make some noise. Not sure if it should have tie downs or not.

Anyone using something to hold it down?

I'll probably remove it eventually if not.

I don't have one as I am still waiting for my MINI (being produced sometime in October, or so I'm told), but it sounds like you could use some industrial strength velcro. You can pick it up fairly inexpensive at Home Depot and it is very strong. I currently use it to attach my router, cable modem and Apple TV to the wall in my media closet.

The nice part is that when you remove it, the only residue is from the tape backing that attaches the velcro to the surface and it can be easily removed with goo gone or rubbing alcohol.

Is this the fold-able one with the four bins? I am looking at it.. and wondering if it is useful, especially for groceries (milk jug rolling and leaking).

I got one, but don't have the Mini to go with it yet. It does look very flimsy and now I'm doubting the purchase. Anyway, I planning to use it to level out the boot when the seats are down for my dog. And will be placing a blanket/mat over it so hopefully it won't manke any noises. Yea, I know I should have just built a platform instead...

Velcro sounds like a good alternative.

Bought it the day we picked up Molly, took it back a few days later 'cause it did not fit with the Boot Liner which we like better. The Lid was very Flimsy as well.

Don't have one but in threads most have felt that it's too expensive for what it does, and simple cheapo containers hold the stuff just as well. The net holds down groceries just fine for me. The one with the British flag got really bad reviews.

I took down the flimsy net on day one.

The box is a nice piece for my needs. But the lid flops around a bit. I do not use the velcro strips on the bottom on purpose, as I move it in and out of the MCS.

But it does rattle around back there, and I may just take it out.

Romi has the one without the lid. It fits snuggly between the cargo nets. Not the sturdiest thing around, but it does keep the groceries from spilling all over while motoring back to the house in spirited fashion.

I've got my eye on the box with the lid I see on Mini Mania. Is this the one you have Brian? I too want to level the load floor for when we get our next dog in a few months. Don't want to bother if its going to be causing noise and floppy lid problems!

I use two of those plastic milk-type crates side=by-side. Fits perfectly and works fine.

UPDATE

I got the boot box from Mini and paid about $250 for it. After about 2 weeks, I noticed back of the box wasn't holding it's shape and the top wasn't fitting very well. I got a piece of 2x4 and attached it to a long strip of plywood to cover the gap between the rear seats when down and the boot box. Still wasn't enough to keep the shape.

And when I put my two dogs in the back, they took one step on the lid and the whole thing collapsed into the box!

Long story short, I'm taking this piece of crap back to Mini and getting my money back. Very disappointed that a company like Mini makes such a piece of you-know-what!

Recommendation: Don't buy it! You're just wasting your money!

I ordered one online. Put it in my trunk. And 30 minutes later threw that 250 cardboard flimsy *** box away (because the company would not take it back ... don't get me started ... ).

Seriously, 250 bucks for THAT!!!!? The lid doesn't even stay on, the dividers inside barely stay in place.

I am no expert on quality control, but not only should that cost $1.32 to purchase, but they should pay me $250.00 a day to test it out!

I got a storage container from The Dollar Store and cut enough from the top to make it level. It is a perfect fit between the nets and sturdy enough for a 80lb dog to jump on. I cut it a little short so I could fold a cheap rug for padding.

It works well with the boot liner which I'm going to trim in the spring unless someone can explain a good purpose for all the excess.

I'm glad to be reading these reviews. I was going to order it (also for a level surface for the dog) when I placed my Mini order but my sales guy talked me out of it. Nice guy!
I think I am going to enlist help in making a wooden box to level off the surface back there. I figure it'll cost around $6.00 or so.

Dave J50, where did you get your liner?
Looking at Poochstyles, but ouch on the price!

Mine is a genuine Mini boot liner which was ordered with the car. I think I paid about $180 which seems high now but at the time I was slinging $500 for this and that and it seemed ok.

It is a good heavy mat and hopefully will last the life of the car. I doubt that I will ever see the back seats again.

The last thing I carried in the back end was a hot water tank. Just two straps was all I needed to hold it down. O wait my back end is bigger than your boot.

Mine's only an R53 but I had the same concerns, so I built one....actually a friend did to my requirements. Turned out great. Supports my weight fine and no rattles.

I have the one with four sections. The dividers are moveable with velcro which is great if you put something larger in it. I like the unit because it keeps the milk from rolling around and holds paper grocery bags perfectly. I've never had a problem with it bouncing around, probably because one end of it has some towels and window cleaner in it all the time. It is a little over-priced, but it fits perfectly in the back of the car.

I kept the one I bought for my R53, it fits nicely in the R56. No complaints at all.

But I have noticed that design flaws plague many of the motoring accessories for the R56. Case in point: the seat belt retaining clips. Extremely bad engineering and design, because it is built in 2 sections--the section that holds the belt always comes off, even with light tugs. So my MINI parts guy was right: AVOID!

I just got mine off of Amazon. It doesn't make any noise when I hit the bumps. I have loaded some groceries in it and it works fine. I also flipped it over for my dog. She doesn't weigh all that much (cocker spaniel), but it might not work that great for a heavier dog. My car is an 09 and the one I bought said for a 07 and 08. It didn't fill up the whole boot. There is room on both long sides. I think it's well made and glad I got it. I had gift certificates so it didn't cost me much.

Fitted boot mat?

Does anybody own the fitted boot mat for their R56? I have an '08 MCS and I'm wondering if the liner manages to accomodate the small bars that are in the boot that the cargo mesh clips onto. I don't want to spend a bunch of money for a mat and have to cutout pieces of rubber.

Speaking of rubber, is it a hard rubber/plastic like what is pictured here http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/G2.../InvDetail.cfm?

Thanks very much for your comments

I have the rear one for the '07 and it does have the cut outs for the rear tie downs. Actually, you do have to cut it a bit, tells you that right on the mat. I didn't have to.

As for the boot box? I got mine thrown in for free but what it does make is an excellent cooler! I drilled holes in the partitions and used a cotter pin to keep them from moving. Line it with a plastic bag and you have a very expensive cooler.

Sparks,

Thanks for your comments. Very interesting reading about Snozeberry on your site. Hey if you happen to have a picture of your box liner in Snozeberry that'd be awesome (without the 'cooler')

Thanks
Ric
