R56 Bubbles after tinting
Bubbles after tinting
How long can I expect for bubbles to be noticeable after tinting? When I first picked it up, there were a ton. It's gotten progressively better over the last day, but there are a couple sizeable ones that I can't really imagine going away.
Did the shop do a crappy job, or is this kind of stuff normal?

I don't know what amazing tinters everyones going to but small bubbles are the norm, and should be expected, after getting tint done, they are there until the tint fully cures. I have never seen a tint job with none, and I've seen some of the best tinters in NYC's work.
If thats what your talking about don't use pins, just let it fully dry, they should be gone in a week (although could last as long as a month if cold), if its ceramic tint you can have bubbles for up to three months.
If you doubt me heres the question posed on a forum for professional tinters, it also a great website to learn about tint:

Now if your talking big air bubbles, no, you should not have those, and you should have the tinter correct his work.

window tinting is what i do and there will be small water bubbbles in the tint for at least 2 or 3 days. Let is sit out side in the sun as much as possible they will go away. Water is the only thing that holds it on at first and once they dry the glue will stick to the glass. Looking from the out side you should have no whiteish color in the bubbles if there is you have a problem that the tinters did not remove all the water and a air pocket has developed and it will allways be there. What ever you do doint use a pin on the tint you will always see light through that little hole and it will most likley void your warranty.
When I had mine done there were no bubbles whatsoever, short of breaking out a magnifying glass anyway. They did do it in the morning and had the car all day while I was at work on a very hot and sunny day though so it may be that they all just cleared up in 8 hours.
Thanks for all the help. Most of the bubbles are small, but there is a pretty big one on my sunroof that I'll show to the tinter tomorrow.
Btw I got 12% on the back 2 side windows and back window and 6% on the sunroof. The 12% looks pretty damn sweet with astro black. I gotta get some pics up here. I just wish you could tint driver and passenger windows in NJ :(

that is sooo cool... any darkness can be used in NJ as long as they arent the front sides... sooo cool!
but then again, there are a lot of people here on NAM (including myself) with illegal tints... as long as you are willing to pay for the consequences if you get caught, tint the fronts!

Same with the last few posts, bubbles are the norm unless they tinted your glass in a vac. I battled a highly highly recommended tinter here in the 'dirty south' for awhile as the tint was just a bad job all around. After a month of not driving the car and keeping it in the sun (I was on business travel) bubbles got worse and tint peeled (after 1 month!)
I took it back, they 'fixed' it and made it worse. Plus they retinted a window and did not tell me, almost rolled the window down. whoops
They burned my sunshade working on my sunroof tint...not pleased, so I asked to see the owner. He looked at the job, ripped my tint off, went in to his shop, rolled some heads, and tinted it himself right on the spot. Haven't had a problem since.
So...moral of this post...if its a good tinter there may be problems, but most will back their work. They depend alot on word of mouth. Bubbles are the norm and will dissipate, and you will love the car even more!

Well in most states that have regulations on tint, it usually applies only to the front windows. NJ actually has some of the toughest tint laws, not because of the law, but how its enforced. You will fail your state inspection, and you also cant sell a car with windows that are unlawfully tinted. This is not the case here in NY, where you only have to worry about the police, and they really only object if they cant see through your windows. Most don't cary around light meter, so they really don't bother to bust *****.
