Rear Lift/Drag with non-S Spoiler

Can anyone give me a Link on the effects of Lift and Drag on a car with and without the Non-S Rear Spoiler attached?

that would certainly be interesting information... I don't think bmw/mini released that information. i know with certain M models they have said xlbs of down force generated at x speed.

Yeah, that would be interesting... but I doubt there was any highly-detailed analysis done on the non-S wing as I imagine it is, for the most part, form over function.

I could be wrong, but the vast, vast majority of factory spoilers/wings go through the simple thought process...

1. Does it look good? Yes.

2. Is it going to TOTALLY screw up the aerodynamics? No.

"OK... ready for production!"

Thanks. I can't get an answer from BMW nor a local tuner here. No one seems to know. They say, they think it does nothing but are not sure.

I'm pretty sure there is a big difference in triple digit speeds... but I doubt you would notice much of a difference during 'legal' driving.

Uncommon sense.

The spoiler is on the back end of a front wheel drive car.

I suspect that the aerodynamics of the body shape is going to have more to do with it than the weight distribution. The MINI shape seems to me to be closer to a brick than an airfoil.

However, rumor is that BMW actually did do wind tunnel testing on it and the little flares on the outside of the C pillars were one of the results. So, I would expect that the MCS spoiler is functional. I thought someone posted numbers for the R56 on this forum somewhere.

Considering how much dust collects on the Mini's boot, I don't think the spoiler does anything but look good IMO.

Yep, the spoiler on my MCS only collects dust on it leading edge, so I would agree that it's not really changing the direction of the airflow and creating any downforce at all.
