R56 Rebel flag roof graphic?
Rebel flag roof graphic?
I know it might be considered politically incorrect in some parts but I don't care! Being a transplated hillbilly (SF Bay Area to rural Tennessee) I think a Rebel Flag roof graphic is what Jim be needin! Anybody know where to find one?
If the cars in Tennessee you will have no problems, if its in SF the PC capital of the world (its funny you think hippies and gays would be tolerant) I'd worry. I think it would look great btw.

What... there's nobody in TN that would find that offensive ? All it takes is one and I guarantee you there are a LOT more than one. I've not lived in MD all my life... I spent three years in that part of the country.
Interesting juxtaposition! I wonder how a gay pride flag would go over in rural Tennessee!
As a gay man, I'm tolerant (I hate that word. I prefer "accepting") of others, despite our differences. I'm also a big time MOPAR fan, and have fond recollections of seeing The Dukes of Hazzard on TV and seeing the General Lee at area car shows when I lived in Virginia. So, I say go for it. It would suck if your car got vandalized, but you shouldn't keep that fear from adorning your car with whatever flag you like.

MD is a lot different than TN, in TN every other car (or truck I should say) has a rebel flag on it, so its not that nobody would find it offensive, its that they would be in such a minority that there is 0 chance they would vocalize it let alone do anything about it, so no reason to worry.
When I was 14, and not yet very aware of the Civil Rights Movement, I was fascinated by the Civil War history. I knew a great deal about the Monitor and the Virginia (Merrimack), and various other aspects of the war and its technologies. I had a lot of admiration for the bravery and spirit of the outnumbered CSS soldiers. I also liked the design of the Confederate flag very much. While we remember the Civil War as a war about slavery, that was not the primary issue of the war when it begun.
However, the Confederate flag has become an icon of bigotry, ignorance, and hatred through its adoption by hate-based extremist groups, I think it is more than just a minor PC issue. For many, it evokes the same kind of reaction that a **** swastika evokes for Jews. In my lifetime there were still lynchings of blacks taking place in the south, and the people doing it became very closely tied to the imagery of the Confederate flag.
Putting such a graphic on a MINI would, IMO, be a very inconsiderate thing to do.

While I support the flag (I went to Ole Miss) too many people do see it has a symbol of hate.. like the swastika (was a tibetan symbol before the ***** got hold of it.) It didn't start as this symbol of hate.. but that's what it has become... And too many people are ignorant (yea, i said it
) and can't have a rational, educated discussion on the flag and it's meaning. And unfortunately, that will make the MINI a target.By the way - I support the flag, but out of consideration for what others see in it, I'm not gonna wave it in their face (didn't even do it at Ole Miss games.)
Just my two cents
Good luck with whatever you decide Tennessee Cutty

You're exagerrating, but I get your point. They're not uncommon. Still, you're taking a risk because all it takes is one person who thinks you're a redneck who wishes slavery still existed. Bingo.
No reason to worry ? There are a lot of others in this thread whom disagree.
My point is there should really be no reason to worry in the South, I mean if some one associates the confederate flag with anything more than southern pride that is their problem, but they are most definitely not southern, and the chances of that happening in Tennessee is almost 0, and more likely they'd be the once getting lynched (I made a funny). Seriously though you see confederate flags everywhere in the deep south, and I never hear of incidents when I'm down there. Do people run around Mississippi destroying the state flag because it has a confederate flag, no, for most people there is a proper understanding of what it represents.
You want to worry about your car go put a Yankee flag on it and park up in Boston.
, and I think I might worry more in TN if I had a Georgia Bulldog or Crimson Tide logo on the roof.
Are there? There isn't a lot of people who even posted in this thread let alone that disagree with me (a few yes), but I have to say they are quite wrong.

Every State is a melting pot with residents from everywhere. It is undeniable that the confederate flag debate elicits everything from "strong opinions" to "anger" on both sides of the issue, even today. So it is only logical people on both sides of the debate would live in Tennessee. And therefore logical that painting your car with something that can evoke anger subjects your car to a greater risk of vandalism.
Still, the more important issue is consideration for others.

IMO...If someone has a Rebel flag on a MINI!!!?...its gonna be funny and original...I don't know that anyone would consider you the least bit redneck...IT'S A MINI...not an 85 Chevy Truck...
Do it!!! Then post pics!!!

I'm sorry but consideration for others really is the least important issue, and shouldn't even enter into the equation at all, its not the publics car, if we had to consider everyones opinion we would have 0 freedom of expression in this country.
Unfortunately, it does become the key issue when others don't have respect for peoples rights to express their opinions however wrong we may think they are, and go to the extent of vandalizing someone's property (or the fact that the OP has to even worry about this).

The Stars and Bars is a part of our history. And if you want to put it on your MINI that should be your right under freedom of expression, no question. Pity it isn't that simple.
Because the Battle Flag was hijacked by segregationists after World War II and used as a symbol in the fight against civil rights, it does not just evoke the Confederate Armies of our Civil War. That's because it was likewise hijacked by the politically correct and branded as a symbol of hate, bigotry, intolerance, segregation.
It's a shame that whatever group shouts the loudest seems to get its way and a little bit of our freedom of speech and a little bit of our freedom of expression is eroded. Debates have devolved into screaming matches in which the opposition is villified.
A student who happened to hail from the South almost got suspended by college in New York City because he hung the Stars and Bars in his dorm window some years back. He wasn't because he agreed to take it down from his window. I think he was allowed to hang it on one of his interior walls. He was villified, though. So much for freedom of expression.
And freedom of speech? Ask the Dixie Chicks about that one, or Valerie Plane who got outed as a spy because of what her diplomat husband wrote.
Too many of our citizens think that if something offends them, it is automatically offensive to all and should be barred or banned. That's not the case of course -- but that isn't the way it's being played out these days where those who disagree are branded as wrong or unpatriotic or hateful.
Excellent points were raised in the postings, on both sides. Weigh it all, and possible consequences, then decide, because it's your freedom of expression and your MINI.
