Cold Start Fix In The Works?
Well, at least BMW/Mini have acknowledged the problem. In any case, with a new order in the pipeline, I am relieved to see this:

Made me go out and check mine. Yup I have it on the valve cover. But I have the Cooper.

Let’s not forget the R56 MC as well. Mine has the cold start noise, but evidently not as extreme as the MCS variants. Mine sounds exactly like too much valve clearance and/or a collapsed lifter. My amateur diagnosis was insufficient oiling so it is good to see some validation from MINI. My dealer could not replicate the noise, of course.

Only noise I hear is what sounds like A/C belt squeal.
The Alternator is held off-line for first few seconds from start, would think they would do the same for the A/C Compressor.

It'll be interesting to see how MiniUSA handles this; will it be a fleet recall or an on-condition fix? I just turned 5000 miles on my R56 and I haven't heard anything. I'd also like to know the percentage of the total fleet that's having this problem, too, pretty difficult to tell based on what I've seen.

Sorry! I didn't mean to... just meant it in passing... I'm glad they're fixing the cold start issue, but living in SC, I doubt I'd ever have to really deal with it. The missing logo however...
