This has been bantered about in other threads, but no one has given a solid answer or posted any photos:
Has anyone out there with an R56 MC mounted a set of 16" R84 V-Spoke wheels on their car? I'm going to buy a set of them for my '08 MC, and understand that they should fit on the lugs and have no brake rotor or caliper clearance issues. I just haven't seen an actual photo of an R56 wearing a set!
Anyone out there with pictures, please post them, or point me to your gallery. I would LOVE to see how they look!!!!
FINALLY, I can say "YES"! (I guess that I answered my own question here...)
Here is a photo of my '08 MC with R84 wheels on and ready to roll! I bought new tires (Bridgestone Potenza 195-55-16) and TPM sensors as well from Discount Tire. They mounted 'em up in about an hour, and I was motoring again!
So (at least for the Cooper; the jury is still technically out for the Cooper S) the final answer is that the R84 V-spokes WILL fit on the new R56 MC!
Dont think they will fit the R56 S tho, because it has the larger JCW brakes, and back in 2006 MY (I think) MINI increased the diameter of the S's lug bolts a few mm.
Too bad-- I have these wheels on Rodney (see sig) and other than being a tad hard to clean, they look great!!
Gorgeous... nice clean wheels and a nice clean car.
Thank you! Astro black isn't as hard to keep clean as I thought it was going to be, but I've been washing the beast 3 or so times per week so far. It's my therapy, though, so it's actually a relaxing pleasure for me.
I keep the wheels clean between washes by hitting them with Griot's Speed Shine (great stuff!) and a towel. A five minute investment pays off for a good day or two of driving. Well worth it!
You said you were able to get TPMS fitted to those wheels at Discout Tire? I bought a set of R84 on ebay and snows and sensors from Tire Rack and took them to NTB. They couldn't get the sensors to fit and said the ones they had wouldn't work either.
Just wondering if I should take them somewhere else.
Those are r84 x-lites....just to correct the thread.
Correct! If you Google either R84 X-Lite or V-Spoke, you'll get photos and descriptions of this wheel. Maybe X-Lite in Europe, V-Spoke in USA, or vice-versa? In any case, a cool wheel that DESERVES two names!
To re-resurrect this thread...has someone successfully installed TPMS sensors in a set of R84 X-Lites/V-Spokes?
Was going to buy a set of Michelin X-Ice winter tires & TPMS sensors from TireRack, and have them mounted on a set of X-Lites I have my old R53. Then use that setup as my winter wheel/tire combo on my Clubman S. I did a test fitting of the wheels, and can confirm that they clear the front calipers as long as the wheel weights are no placed inside the wheels. I'd just like to find an answer to the TPMS question...
I have Installed a set of these wheels on my 2013 Cooper S and they fit perfect. I installed a set of snow tires but i did not install any brake sensors.
To definitively answer this question...I can say that you CAN run R84 X-Lites/V-Spokes on the Gen2 MINI Cooper S (thus the Gen2 Justa as well). Clearance is tight with the front brake calipers, but they do fit. Just make sure that when the tire shop is static balancing the wheels/tires, they do not use tape weights inside the wheels. Tape weights inside the wheels will hit the front brake calipers and probably cause you all sorts of headaches. If they can put the wheel weights on the inside lip of the wheel, then there will be enough clearance for the front brake calipers on a Gen2 MCS.
Additionally, the wheels will accept TPMS sensors. I purchased a set of sensors with my Michelin X-Ice Xi3 winter tires from Tire Rack, and they ended up being Huf TPMS sensors for $51/each (which is about $10 cheaper than anywhere else).
Also photographic proof of R84 X-Lites/V-Spokes on my 2013 MINI Cooper S Clubman...
^Wow, that is a tight fit, but nice! Great winter set-up with the taller side wall (not to mention cheaper snow tires in 16"). Factory lugs, right?
Not that we care much, because we visually inspect our tires, but Discount Tire could never get TPMS sensors to fit in the Compomotives I put on the car. They tried them backwards, a different brand or two, etc, with no dice. Considering these are basically rally wheels, I think the construction is just too beefy.
Yea, its tight, but works. Nice to see the R84's on a newer MINI If you have gen2 JCW brembo brakes you will need a 17" wheel. If you have the rare early Gen 2 JCW single piston brakes, they should fit also. I have 15" spiders on my gen 1 with stock brakes and its tight.
To add another data point, R84 wheels will fit over JCW brakes on the R53. Here are some pics. There is about a penny's thickness of clearance between the caliper and the wheel weight.
