Other MINI lovers are waving at me...

Wow... First weekend with my MINI. While driving on the road, I saw several MINI lovers waving at me and my friend. So I waved back with my big smile. It felt so good. I gonna wave other MINI lovers first. It's really great feeling. I love MINI. I love everyone here too. I think MINI is changing my life.

If it didn't, I'd be worried.

The good news is that it's only downhill from here.

It's a neat feeling when you first experience Mini ownership. It's unlike any other car/truck ownership out there. The Jeep thing and the Mustang thing just don't hold up to the MINI THING!!!

There's different persona's in the MINIverse too.

Have the Rogue MINI's which are speed bandits that just zips by too fast for you to wave to or them to wave at you.

Then there are the the Stuckup MINI's that just drives by and ignores other MINI's exist. Could be one of a few possibilities: 1) they're on the phone, 2) they're concentrating or distracted to notice other MINI's, 3) window is closed, glare from other side, can't see, can't raise hand, etc.

But in any case, I try to wave at each one I see. Especially people who wear MINI gear (that's IF I spot them); be they with a MINI cap, MINI shirt, MINI coat/jacket. Because obviously if they're wearing MINI branded clothing, they either are already driving one or knows someone who is driving one.

It's encouraged that you find a local club or an event for MINI gatherings and prep to fit in. Because especially MotD's, where there's over 100+ MINI's at any given point during mornings, you'd see people driving all around in MINI's like it's a MINI city. Most bizarre thing ever! And best of all, it never gets old, AND it never loses its humor and grins.

Welcome aboard.

Hey Cooper Flags,

How 'bout coming up with a grill badge that says "MINI Happens" ???

Your's are the best-made of all the ones I've tried.

Fun fun fun...

Waving at other MINI lovers is so fun. It really warms my heart. I agree, "keep the wave alive."

I've been getting waves almost every time lately. I think it's the motoring badges. People are hesitant to wave unless they're really sure you'll wave back, i.e., you are an "enthusiast".

I got a nice return wave from a middle-aged woman on expressway the other day. MINIs are quite rare where I live. I passed one the other day and was about to wave when I realized I was driving my Mazda3.... do'oh!

I do find that a MINI that has some custom features will more than likely have a driver that will wave.
And I don't mean major work, I'm talking about a little bling, bling or tow hook anything that differs from bone stock.

I was in Gatlinburg Tennessee this past week with my two sons. We waved at every MINI we saw. Some people waved back while others just thought we were wierd. I'm from NW Ohio and I only see a MINI about once a week or so. When I do the other drivers seldom wave. I think more people wave when they are involved in a club or are used to seeing a lot of MINIs. By the way, my MINI is on the Killboy and Zeefoto websites. We drove the Dragon on 6/18

I wave whenever I can. It seems that if eye contact is made, you will get a wave back. Sometimes the wave will get their attention, but if they don't see you, your just waving.
I am still amazed how strangers will just come up to me and ask me about the car. I was even receiving treatment during a physical therapy session, when a lady comes in for therapy and asks the entire room "who owns that Mini?"
Turns out that I bought the same model and color combo that she had test driven and was trying to convene herself to buy.
It's a friendly bunch out there.

KEEP THE WAVE ALIVE!

It's all in the YOU-i-fication! If you look friendly.... and it doesn't matter what you drive - wave anyway!

I've described this on some of the other "wave" threads, but I had my whole company of soldiers trained as MINI spotters. It made the (VERY LONG, VERY TEDIOUS) convoys back and forth across Germany for training more fun...A little dangerous, though...try driving a big tactical vehicle (Humvee or 5-ton truck), the whole truck yelling, "MINI!!!" and waving like maniacs....scared a lot of Germans (what, they weren't expecting it!?!), but it was fun.

I started a famous failure to wave thread within the DFW club when I saw a MINI with a metroplexmini.org sticker on it. I waved a bunch and got no response. Of course I was in my Intrepid and our only MINI at the time was my wife's. Anyway, as a result of that sticker, I found the club. The hunt was on. Who didn't wave back? What color? Was there a Gizmo on the dash? There was? It was Matt! The club president! The club proceeded to CRUCIFY him for not waving back. And Matt was the founder of the club and pres for like 6 years! So you should wave at non-MINIs too. You never know, they might join the revolution.

Me not getting waves while driving my Intrepid turned into such a joke that when I announced I'd ordered Bimini, the title of the post was "I'm tired of no respect...". But in reality, I'd get a number of waves and it's all in fun anyway! MINI owners are the best group of fun people. And now with Bimini, I'm having to learn to watch out for waves. Got one last night from my friend Maggie as we both drove home.

EDIT: Per GoKartRide's post below, I probably have more than a couple of facts about Matt's history incorrect. I have to admit, I'm not the club historian. So I've edited the above a bit.

It sure is nice to see that so many others are getting waves! So, could someone tell me why no one in Orange County, CA waves ....except for me of course. I try and wave to every MINI I see even if they have super dark tint. I'm beginning to develop a complex. I even think I might be scarred for life....

thus far I am at 0 for 50+ waves.

I've waved at 50+ MINI drivers and have gotten 0 back.

On the strange look side I am about 10 for 50.
