Hey guys, For the second time since I picked up my 2008 MC,
I have heard this weird knocking noise upon turning off the engine.
It sounds literally like someone is knocking in quick succession 3-4 times on my boot......the first time I thought it was my imagination,but then it occurred again tonight immediately upon the engine turning off.
First time, in my driveway, tonight in the garage....any ideas, thoughts?

Its probably just ur exhaust

 

Exhaust problem or exhaust "breaking in" so to speak....only has 513 miles on it....

 

What gas are you putting in it. Try switching to a different gas brand.

 

2008 MC here as well, with 1500 miles. I don't get it as often, but mine definitely does the same thing occasionally, almost like someone is thumping on the boot. I too suspect the exhaust. Greg

 

Well, I thought this might be something similar to the knock I hear from my 2008 MC (1200 km) but now I'm not so sure if people are hearing it come from the rear.

I have a knock/rattle that sounds like it's coming from something near the bottom of the engine compartment. I first noticed it right after delivery - when I shut the engine down the last thing I'd hear as the engine stopped was "knock knock".

It's gotten steadily worse and now I'm hearing it frequently at low speeds. Going over a speed bump, or the curb into my driveway; moving away from a stop; even blipping the throttle gives me the knock. Seems like anytime the engine may be shifting slightly, it happens, so I'm guessing that something is hitting something else under there.

It's clearly not from the boot area so maybe not the same issue. Regardless, it's going in this afternoon to be checked.

 

Good idea to get it checked, kav. Yours may be a motor mount. Post the outcome here, please. Kinda curious.

 

Just got back - no dice. The tech was able to reproduce the knock, but since you can only hear it from inside the vehicle, when they got it up on a lift they couldn't trace it to anything. So beyond the fact that all looks normal underneath, all I got was a shrug and a "If it gets worse, bring it back." So no answers for me today.

 

I am glad to hear that thus far your mini is checking out OK.
I am thinking my knock is exhaust as well. It is definitely coming from the back....
It is not a gasoline type knock...that I am familiar with, and I am using Premium....
