Black roof question...

Does the black roof make the interior hotter in the summer time? Would you get the white roof if you could do it over again?

Will you have a sunroof? With a sunroof there is very little roof left to heat up.

Whoa! That's one heckuva garage! Your floor is cleaner than my car right now...

I haven't noticed that the car gets any warmer than any other car I've owned. I have the sunroof, but it's got tint and the shade.

weird, my wife just came home from grocery shopping and saw a Mini with a sun roof. Now she wants one for my car. I originally didn't want one because of the added cost but, what wifey want's, wifey gets So I guess my question is now moot. Thanks fellas!

You can still get half black and half white.

Would you mind posting a pic of what it looks like from the inside looking out? I'm torn on whether or not to do the same thing.

I'm getting a clubman in red with black roof (no sunroof), and am a little worried about the heat too. Was thinking about rigging up some sort of white sheet thing to cover the roof when I have to park it outdoors... The car cover seems like it'd be a little bit too much of a hassle to use all the time...

OMG! That's an awesome setup you have - garage, floor that's fit for a MINI -- but honestly, I've never seen a garage outfitted with a special rack just to hold a football! Cheers!

The rack was there when we bought the house, the football just happened to fit there. Notice the baseball bat hinging to the right of it. Again, that hook was already there.

And the hammer... it's a novelty hammer.... Phildadelphia Eagles. A gift from my fiancee. Her feelings would be hurt if I didn't proudly dispay it.

See... a reason for everything in that garage.

As others have previously posted, I do not experience a noticeable difference in my black roof'd MINI from my previous car, a white Cavalier. (I live in the near-desert where it gets over 110 for weeks at a time!) I can't remember exactly where, but I have heard that those with sunroofs experience more heat than either white or black roofs. (Which makes sense).

Hope that helps!

Thanks folks. You've been most helpful. I am almost an official member of this community. I've just placed my order today for my Mini. I declined the sun roof option and went with a solid black roof. During my test drive, I just didn't notice it enough and, I've had a Jeep for a long time now so I opted for a hard top. And besides, all of the Mini's in the racing videos on the website were all hard tops I can't wait to take it to the track.

My word, your garage is neater and cleaner than anywhere in my house! sigh

But on topic, there might a be a clearance difference between hardtop and sunroof as well particularly while wearing a helmet though I'm not certain which has more. I used to own an Eagle Talon and a sun roof actually made it easier for me to wear my helmet. There also might be some weight difference. And one other issue might be structural integrity. With my Talon's sun roof and I could hear the glass roof squeak slightly against the insulation when I took aggressive turns... it was flexing a little. Not to say the MINI has any issues but it would seem that the roof would be more solid with a full roof. But I'm pretty certain the difference would be so slight that it wouldn't matter much to me. I'll test for a few of these things when I get my long awaited MINI.

I'm assuming that his is perforated vinyl so you can see through it from inside, but maybe not?

Sides, the a.c. is strong enough to cool it down quick enough. Or you can use the key remote to open the windows before you get to the car.

Yep... got a whopping 7 inches this winter. But average is more like 20 inches, I would guess.

No worries, sweet it and mop it just like you would floors in your house... looks brand new again. I've only done that twice this winter, about the same rate I sweep and mop in the good weather months.

Not really. I work for a test lab north of Phoenix and we haven't seen that the exterior color makes much difference on the interior temp. It seems the sunlight coming through the windows and striking the interior components has way more of an effect...so a sunroof would probably make a difference unless you leave it cracked open to vent the hot air. Sun shades and tinted windows certainly help when the car is parked, but as for driving, exterior color is meaningless for interior temps.

I have a black roof without a sun roof and worried about interior heat too. However, I've been through one hot summer and had no problem.
