Just How Much of a "Must" is the Anthracite Headliner

I just ordered a R56 S but I didn't pick the anthracite headliner. I just found out that it did not come standard (all the cars on the lot had it) so I've been wondering, is it actually worth the $250????? Any opinions appreciated

Is it just a different color? To me it's just a headliner and you almost never look at it anyway. To me it's just a waiste of money. My car doesn't have it and would rather get something more valuable like for ex. the arm rest or carbon fiber piece of some kind....

I think it's a must-have, but then again, I'm a sucker for sexy, cozy, cohesive interiors. The "typical" light gray headliner always sticks out like a sore thumb in an otherwise black or dark interior. I know automakers have light colored pillars and headliner to keep a lighter ambiance and also to reduce the unconscious distraction of too high of a contrast between pillars and the outside, however in practice it's no big deal for me; I prefer the aesthetic [and the lower reflection on the windows].

It's definitely worth it. Makes the interior look a lot nicer. The other headliner gets dirty VERY easily...

I love it and would have been disappointed with the puddy grey that comes standard. But then again, had I gone with a more sporty interior of maybe alloy finish and black, red, or blue seats then I think it would look ok. But because I have the redwood leather with piano black and chrome I wanted to keep everything dark and not have it so much be an eyesore with a lightly contrasting grey headliner and pillars. (Remember, the anthracite color carries throughout the interior to the pillars of the car as well.) Basically depends on your other interior color choices and imo if your seats are sporty or cloth then i'd go with the std grey but if you have more of a classy/sophisticated look then i'd go with anthracite.

I just picked up my MCS the other day and I ordered it with piano black and the anthracite headliner. It looks amazing! I am REALLY glad I got the anthracite headliner. A must have in my book!

I didn't get it and don't even notice the headliner. The one I test-drove had one. It looks OK...but a headliner is not something I'm going to pay extra for.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but I love playing with the toggle switches (including the ones up top)... its just the extra $250 that bugs the living ***** out of me (a $100 would have been fine, but $200+...).

When we went in to order Molly I asked to see both...our MA showed us the difference, it was quite a bit of difference. I ordered the Anthrecite HL to go with the Fluid Silver Interior Surface and Chrome Line. I can't wait to see how she looks. I would definitely pay any amount of $$ for a more cohesive look. I ordered alot of options, some options I could live without because of $$, but I went over my $25000 budget by $3000.
I spec'd the car to look GOOD and I know she will.
It's your choice, I know you've gotten several varying responses. In the end it is up to you.
Everyone is building THEIR own car it isn't MASS produced.

I agree with you. It's your choice. If you like it enough, $250 isn't really that much. If it doesn't really matter to you (like it didn't to me) $250 is too much. I think it looks nice...but just wasn't a big deal for me.

The way I looked at it was this: I'm spending $20k on a car at the very least (I think I've seen some people say they spec'd out their car at over $40k, which boggles the mind). In the scheme of a $20k+ car, what's $250? If you want it, what's that going to cost you extra over the course of your loan? A few bucks a month? (E.g. at 6% over 60 months, it's only another $4.62 per month. In my opinion, it's not that balk-worthy.)

Yes, what's another $250.00? That's how you get to $40k! ... one option at a time! Clever, those MINI marketing folks! I'm also impressed at the arbitrary price-breaks on all the options. Ever notice that there are no $50 options, or $150.00 options, or $200.00 options, or $300.00 options? It's all in $100, or $250.00 or $500.00 increments. $40k, here we come!

Not true! The double spoke JCW wheels are $3585!

Talk about a waste of money...

With options that overpriced, it's no wonder people build $40k MINIs without even blinking!

i actually just got my mcs and i think it is worth the money. the light grey headliner will eventually get dirty and it is not a like a smooth headliner like on the audi's or beamers. so if you try to clean it it will shed. just my 2 cents

I haven't seen the oem headliner. Is it sewed in vinyl, as in if you stuck a knife in it would it tear like a seat covering? If so that's very different than the anthracite, which is applied directly to the roof. Once sewed-in headliners start coming apart it isn't long before they need to be replaced.

I felt like I was in a cave when I sat in a car that had it. I don't have it and the interior is brighter. It just depends on what mood you want, dark and cozy, or light and airy.

I would save $250 and add to the black R105 JCW 18" wheels. In fact that is exactly what I will do, except Morristown Mini sells them for $2,250. To me this is a must have...headliner doesn't really contribute to car's handling anyway...
