Gas Door On My MC Not Flush After Body Repair

My MC fuel door seems to stick-out quite a bit when closed, about 5mm, after I got my rear quarter panel replaced after an accident. I wanted to make sure my memory is not messing with me. It was flush before, right? Is everyone else's relatively flush?

Maybe it's time for me to get the chrome fuel cap mod?

Thanks guys for the quick replies and pictures.

Anyway, I went to the shop and turns out it was the gas cap was put on wrong causing the door to stick out. Embarrassing. That's why I didn't notice it when I picked up the car a week ago. My wife just filled up gas in Jersey a day ago, and since it is full service only in Jersey, the attendant most likely didn't screw the cap properly. I didn't even think of checking. Oh well, another lesson learned.

Oh yeah, here's a plug for the body shop, Autotech in Manhattan. They were very responsive and do excellent work.

Oh dude that is embarrassing! But at least it's better than having to have more body work done.

Your are lucky you didn't get a check engine light. That will happen if the cap is not snug in place.

Imagine driving home from the dealer with a brand new Mini and having the check engine light come on about 10 minutes later. Not a good feeling, however thanks to my extensive readings here on NAM before my purchase, my first thought and hope was that the gas cap was loose since it was filled up prior to me leaving the dealer. Sure enough that was the problem!

Imagine preparing yourself to drive off in your brand new MINI on delivery day and the check engine light comes on before you even make it off the lot!?! Happened to me, good thing I'm not a big believer in 'signs' or what not.

To make things worse it took the dealer almost an hour to discover the problem. Turns out the oil dipstick was never fully inserted from the factory. Arrived with just 3 miles on the odometer.

(Sorry if that was a bit off topic )

No problem. It just diverts everyone's attention from my original embarrassing issue. Oops, now I reminded everyone.

I think it's fair warning!!! Apparently it is very possible...dare I say easy...to get the gas cap on wrong. Just have to not be too absent-minded about the whole thing.
