R56 Wife Finally Drove the MINI
Wife Finally Drove the MINI
After 3 + months, she finally drove the MCS. I thought we were going to go thru the windshield at the end of the driveway. "Honey, these are VERY good breaks."
Going down a 45 mph road (where everyone does 50 or so), she is doing 65 mph. "Honey, you're doing 65 in a 45." She slows down to 50. OK. Couple miles later, back up to 65. "[I]chuckle[I] You're doing 65 again." "It doesn't feel like I'm going that fast!" "I know baby, that's why they give you this great big speedo right here." Once we got on the interstate, all was well.

I hear ya! I purchased my mini "Silversmith" in Aug. My wife finally drove it this past week end! You're lucky to have held her down to 65!
My wife was over 70 on back streets. Once on the highway, we did over 90.
After this experience, I agree with you that these are "very good brakes"!

Exact same thing when my female best friend drove it for the first time. To make things worse, I had the sport button enabled (auto trans). Halfway through the drive and she says, "I'm never driving this car again. You barely put your foot on the gas and it just jets forward. I'm definitely gonna hit someone!!!". LMAO, and she's used to a VW Jetta with almost dangerously unsensitive brakes, so the MINI's were beyond amazing to her.
After a couple more drives, with sport disabled though, she quite enjoys the MINI.
Really makes me happy because when I first told her of my decision to get it, she was blatantly disappointed. But now I've officially converted her.

I think I like my MINI better!
My wife drove my MINI (MSC with 6 speed manual) within a week of us bringing it home. She normally drives an '07 Camry with auto transmission. She wanted to make sure that she could drive it in case she needed to. She didn't have any problems with it, but she drives pretty conservatively...

I hear ya, on occasion, I need to drive my 99 Expedition to haul my music gear to gigs! OMG! What torture!
I also occasionally have to drive my wife's Acura TL type S and while I drove it before my I "willed" it to my wife, it just doesn't seem the same.
I had to drive my '97 Ford Ranger the other day to go out to my mom's house in the mountains (don't think curvy mountain road - think 5 mi terrible dirt road). I nearly steered us into the ditch trying to get the dang wheel to respond! It felt like I could turn it halfway before the truck actually responded. There was so much play in it it was scary. Not to mention the truck is a verifiable p.o.s. and it felt like I could get out and push it to make it accel faster than it was. Amazing to think I used to drive that thing every day...

My wife has a 2006 Ford Focus (which she chose) so she has a fairly decent car to start with. Years ago she “appropriated” my 244 Volvo rather than drive the Ford station wagon she herself picked out. I knew that if I paid the premium for an automatic transmission in the Mini it would just be a matter of time before she claimed it too. Since she refuses to drive a car with a manual transmission I bought the MCS with the 6 speed manual (which is what I wanted anyhow) knowing that she would not want to drive it. If I had paid the extra money for the auto transmission I’d probably be driving the Focus now.
My wife drives and '01 Ford Focus ZX3 (manual!) and she's quickly taking a liking to my MCS... I need to keep her away from it. She also fell in love with my old BMW E30 (325es) learning that even though it's ugly it's great fun to drive and dead reliable (hmm something BMW hasn't held on to that well).
A year and a half ago I test drove my mini a used 2004 MC MY/W CVT from the dealership she did not want to drive as it was "my car" now a year and a half latter she has her own and I can't get her keys from her hands.. :D nothing like having two in the garage
.
My wife drove my 07 MC this weekend for the first time. She loved it. I don't see us becoming a two mini family. With the closest dealer 90 miles away I don't want to be dealing with service of two cars at a dealer that far away. If Mini would do something and allow BMW dealers to do routine servicing of Mini's that problem would go away. We have a BMW dealer 5 miles away.
90 miles is a great reason for a "drive" I'll bet there are some twisty roads somewhere on the way to or from the dealership.. I do understand what your saying my closest dealership is 158 miles away and hopefully Mini will move closer until then I have the excuse to drive up and I have my favorites routes already they are the ones with the yellow sign's with the curves and slow speeds for normal cars....
Same here! And I have the S.
On the autobahn, I assume???
