This all started when I was given info on a site called The Garage Journal ( http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/f...splay.php?f=20 ). I was hooked.
I have lain over 900 square feet of VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile) following the instructions of the many links on the site. I have sealed, waxed and shined.
The final cost will be under a grand. I still get to rent a 17-inch high-speed polisher to put the final touch and mirror like finish on it.
Any reason you went with that high-maintenance floor over a low-maintenance one ? Was it purely a matter of cost or do you prefer the vinyl look over the rubber/plastic tiles ?
It does look very nice indeed. Are the tiles glued down?
I'm afraid I'd be down on hands & knees with my PCDA getting all the swirls out and putting down wax. I really don't need something else to obsess over.
And how would I keep the wax out of the cracks? Gawd, then I'd have to tape before I polished.
I too would love to see your MINI sitting in there.
I REALLY like that look - and that type of tile - I've considered doing the same thing... but then I'd feel compelled to keep my garage clean... argh... I don't need to be like Chuck in that regard...
I think it looks fantastic. I've been looking at garage floor finishes but they all seem to cost over $2500 for a 2.5 car garage. $1K seems reasonable for one your size. Can you explain more on the floor and installation? Would it work in a cold climate like Chicago?

$2500 ?! Just how big is that 2.5 car garage ?
I tiled an area in my garage that is about 17' x 19' and the cost was only about half of that. And I bought some of the most expensive tiles on the market... RaceDeck.

My garage is just shy of 600 sq ft. If I could do it for half of that, I'd do it in a minute. BTW, I love your floor. It looks great, and matches the theme well. Where did you buy your tile?

It looks like your garage is tiled in LEGO. Very cool!

That's one very large garage you got there. If you ever do tile it, WW !
Thanks. I bought those tiles directly from Race Deck. They have a very good design program on their internet site (www.racedeck.com).

Well, it officially a 2.5 car garage, not quite big enough for 3 cars, but it's deeper than the average garage. In fact one of the things I'm contemplating is to expand half of it to be able to park two cars on that side in tandem.
I did my garage in commercial vinyl tiles (available at lowes, home depot). Total sq ft ~800 for $0.59/sq ft + glue (~$25) and my time (took ~ 8 hours). I did it in grey and black tiles (I will post a pix later, I'm at work). It looks pretty good and pretty durable and reasonable cost.

That is very reasonable. All the ones I've seen cost much more. I looked at some at Sam's and they we about $3 per tile.

I think we're talking about two very different types of tile here.
The ones at Sam's are the soft rubber/plastic tiles and the ones that spfd is referring to are the vinyl tiles, similar to what you might use on your kitchen floor.
The rubber/plastic tiles do not get glued down. If you move, you take the floor apart and take it with you.
It's all a matter of what you want versus what you're willing to pay for.
