Oh How I Love My MINI...

Sometimes I get down reading NAM because there are so many posts about people's problems with their cars. I realize this is a skewed sample (and I have, on occasion, contributed myself), but in case there are others out there who sometimes feel depressed reading NAM, I just want to say...

I LOVE MY MINI. I'm about to turn 3500 miles on my R56, and I adore it. I smile when I see it. I smile when I see that others smile when they see it. I love driving it. I love the contrasting colors, the stripes, the tiny little boot, the easy-flip-down seats, the monster spedometer...and much, much more.

My Mini makes me grin. I hope yours makes you grin, too.

NAM needs more posts like yours. I CAN'T WAIT until my MCS arrives!

I've had mine for three days. I'm quite smitten. This board has been great. Mine didn't have the lower weather gasket thing on the doors and I noticed it because of a thread here. None of the hard tops they had in stock had them. But mine will soon!

My R56 Electric Blue Cooper with white roof and stripes sure is purty! Shouldn't I be out driving?

You sound like me.

This car so full of personality, it's amazingly quick and gets great gas mileage (how many cars do both?), it elicits smiles from all kinds of drivers (and a thumbs-up from a guy in an H1 ), I like those fun little options that serve no real use (the mood lighting, for example), and I get to be part of the MINI community.

I love the dual-pane sunroof, I love the ability to switch from automatic transmission to manual, I love the secret compartment where I stash my cloth to wipe the fingerprints off my Piano Black dash. I love that three-blinks-of-the-turn-signal ability. I'm an obsessive signaler, and it's really useful for lane changes.

Every MINI is so unique, and it's such a great quality on today's highways - highways filled with cookie-cutter vehicles. It's a tiny car, but there's so much room (for those in the front, at least ); I never expected the MINI to be so comfortable. I love flipping down the back seats and putting in a whole cart of groceries in while people gawk and wonder "Is that all going to fit?"

I love my complete lack of rattles also. I lucked out there.

Okay, that's all the sappy love I'll throw out there for now. I will not embarrass myself further.

I keep trying to think of errands to run to justify driving it, and always looking for new mods to do.

You said a mouthful! There are so many gloom-and-doom posts on this board (and I suspect all car boards), that it scares people to death and/or causes them to second-guess their decision to order. I know I started my own thread back in December or January. At that time there were no R56s available, and all anyone could say was that the car had been redesigned from previous models. Release date was 2/17, and we ordered in December. The dealer couldn't even tell us what the R56 would drive like, and didn't have color charts, interior pictures, etc.

Complicating that was the hatred so many people in the MINI community had for the new arrival. It was worse on the internet (and still exists a little), but I even saw it in person. So many people predicted a world meltdown the minute the R56 hit these shores. Fortunately that hasn't happened. Sure, there are a few mechanical issues that appear to be on a number of '07s, but not anything that didn't compare to the previous edition (and even model years)! And I think the later '07s have had less of them than the early ones. I've got a week 3 build, and I know of some software issues we had that no longer exist, for example.

Oh well, take it from me--someone who's got 15,000+ miles on a car delivered on February 21--you'll love it, and it will be well worth the wait!

I'm currently at 7,800+ miles and have never loved an inanimate object like this before.

I could not love my MINI any more if I tried!!!

I guess you know it's love when you park the car, walk away, and in a couple yards, turn around to give it just one more look.

Thank heaven for little cars

still smitten

Count me among the smitten as well. I loved my '03 MCS from the minute I saw it, and I hated to see it go five years later. The new MCSa is wonderful as well. Nothing else available that I can even think about affording even comes close to inspiring this much adoration.....yeah, I know, it's just a car.....NOT

This is my first post as I have been voyeuristically enjoying all the things I've read. NAM was instrumental in helping me decide on which options to include in my '08 MCS SS/W that is currently "on order".

Something Massive_Lemon said made me curious. Our MCS will have auto because my wife doesn't know, and is unwilling to learn, how to drive drive a manual transmission. I enjoy the manual and think they have more punch but lost that battle.

Are you saying with the click of a button we can have the best of both worlds? I can drive a manual while she can drive an automatic?

My Cooper and I are inseperable, I use every excuse to drive it. My other car, a Ranger pickup, doesnt have a chance to be driven, unless its a great necessity.

I have loved the MINI since it was first introduced back in '02. It was a few years before I finally purchased a used '04 MCS. I've owned many cars, among them corvettes and porsches and I must say that the MINI is at the top of the list.

Yes you can easily shift manually by using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Just pull the gear lever while in Drive to the left detent and the OBC will indicate DS mode and will allow you to shift manually to your hearts content. My wife is just like yours in that she has always been unwilling to learn to use a hand shaker but this thing is a great compromise. She gets what she wants and on the occasion that I want to act out my fantasies I can.

You can also manually shift anytime that you want while in normal drive but after a few seconds it will default back to normal auto mode. The sport button is also great fun as it gives you more aggressive shifting/down shifting in the auto.

OBTW, We love our new mini and continue to be amazed at how much fun we have in this car.

Add another one to the group. I have 3700+ miles and am quite happy with my Mini. I won't repeat what others have already said but rather add how much of a joy it is to spot a fellow motorer and exchange waves. Like being in an exclusive club of people that know something others do not.

I am sure Ferris Bueller was talking about the MINI when he said -

"It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

Or it might have been a Ferrari, but it should have been a MINI!

Yes, me too. In fact, I've concluded that MINI enthusiasts cannot be called serious motorists. How can we called "serious" when we always have a smile on our faces while driving?

I must say that my love for driving is awake once again thanks to my MINI. I'd lost the thrill over the years. I thought it was an age thing. Now I'm convinced that it was all about what I was driving.

As others have mentioned, I try to find reasons to take a little spin in my beloved MINI. I'm always looking for other MINIS out there to wave to, although I realize I do miss a few dealing with the traffic issues in my area.

The roads would be a happier place if we all drove MINIS. I must admit that I'm glad I'm one of the few.

Big happy

I agree with you all!!

Harry makes me smile every day, I find myself talking to him and then just laughing!!! At every arrival when I get out, I'm smiling!

I love cars and a lot of other cars tempt me, but I can't see another car giving me more driving enjoyment, day to day, than this car.

Motor on!!!!!!!!!

ps----DJAM43, I love your car, clean and classic...I think it every time I see a post by you...."What a sweet MINI"!

I know this is not what the thread is about so I will make this my last question. Does the MCSa come with a clutch? Or is it like shifting from D to 2 to 1 in an automatic?

Forgive me, but what a shocker! Now I'm even more excited to get my new baby!

Not just car boards. I read a LOT of boards for just about every consumer product I care about and it is inevitable people with problems gravitate to the boards for help. If you read the boards first and took that a representative, you would never buy anything!

Then, throw in a handful of trolls (not pointing any fingers here!) and it can look really depressing.:impatient

But, not me, I love my MINI!
