Much as I'd like a little more power I prefer the line of the hood on the R50/R52 not to mention the gas mileage. In as much as I'm still paying for it the R56 is out of the question. R50/R52' rule

Actually, yes I am. I average about 32 MPG combined, when I drive like a responsible 42 year old. Although I must admit, that is not very often.

R56 (bonnet-wise) actually looks like it's slimmed down a tad bit considering the bulge on the R53 bonnet.
We call that bulge a bicep. We like to flex it too. We also needed some room for our functional scoop. (I know, I know you guys have "functional" scoops on the later build R56's, but that is like putting a swamp cooler in a sweatshop. )

Came out of the mall yesterday to find an R53 parked next to my R56. It was chili red with red bonnet stripes and checkered mirror caps. Mine is pepper white with black racing stripes and a checkered rearview mirror cap.

They looked fantastic next to one another. They were both PERFECT. It made me feel all fuzzy inside that they got to hang out while I tried on clothes .

That's what the ad says , but what do you really get? They haven't released the cabrio version yet, so I'll stick to my 26/35 advertised 30/34 in reality at least until my payment book runs out. Or maybe I'll wait for the electric version and keep the old ragtop for longer trips. Then I'll have to decide whether to drive the fat one or the skinny one.

My 2006 R53 gets 29/37, and I definitely do not drive like a grandma. I think if I were to drive really conservative for a tank full, I would get 30/40.

Does anyone know if a CAI improves the mileage? I'm thinking of getting one.

New R56 discovery...... ;-)

Geez, the old one uses more gas, it's smaller inside and out and it whines about not having a turbo. To top it off, it's slower and has a smaller speedometer and brakes to prove it. One guy I saw was so depressed that he started putting black electrical tape all over the shiny parts of his car and turned it into a low rider without a back seat. Now he has more aftermarket parts on it than oem and has a $50mm wanabee mushrooming botox job. He sits at the computer all day trying to figure out what to do next. Can anyone help?

(just a joke....i find some postings very amusing and reflect the personalities of the writers more than anything to do with the cars)
As a R53 owner I found this pretty darned funny. If I can find the air valve on mine I'll add another 100 psi to inflate it way big & have my R56.

One thing I really like about the R56. It's the little know fact that the huge speedometer doubles as a temporary spare tire.

(just joking back at you ;-).... one day I'll own a R56, but not until my old emaciated R53 is used up)

Speaking for Coopers only, I'm not sure that the Prince engine (R56) is wildly more efficient than R50's Tritec (the Prince is quite good in the torque department though), but the addition of that 6th gear for the R56 Cooper really bumps that highway mileage out the ceiling.

^ You are 110% correct. Nothing MINI about the New MINI. They should have called them the MAXI.

So what does that make a garage for an R56? A MAXI pad?

I'll quote my father: "Why do you have a bathroom scale on your dashboard?"

I'm glad everyone had a good time with this thread which I started and that you have remained in good spirits. The bathroom scale reply was the best. Unfortunately I won't be able to drive my car now without thinking about it.

Funny, I saw an R53 today at my son's playground and thought "hey, that looks pretty good" and it wasn't even modded. My son said, "there's a blue one." Point is, they all look pretty good.

Let's go on to other things, like mat vs. glossy.....

Cheers!
