Not true.
As long as they have the optional driving lights, the bloated R56 can indeed signal airplanes, or light up Coit Tower on a midnight run.

At next years MOTD, the R53's will still be looking to the skies at night with bonnets open...and the R56's will just be looking at each other

Geez, the old one uses more gas, it's smaller inside and out and it whines about not having a turbo. To top it off, it's slower and has a smaller speedometer and brakes to prove it. One guy I saw was so depressed that he started putting black electrical tape all over the shiny parts of his car and turned it into a low rider without a back seat. Now he has more aftermarket parts on it than oem and has a $50mm wanabee mushrooming botox job. He sits at the computer all day trying to figure out what to do next. Can anyone help?

I dig skinny chicks.

(just a joke....i find some postings very amusing and reflect the personalities of the writers more than anything to do with the cars)
This thread is full of win and awesome.

I have always thought my R53 was curvy with a nice set of headlights - kinda like her momma.

The R56 looks bulbous to me...

I will say that the classic Minis have a bubble butt that is closer to the R56 than the R53.

Bubble Butt

No Bubble Butt

Bubble Butt

I like no bubble butt. But compare the whole package and Classic Mini is a clear winner.

But then I like my "cars" small with a nice set of headlights.

R52/53's have nicer highbeams, IMHO.

Don't know what aftermarket driving lights you're looking at.. but the MINI ones mount to the bumper and stay with the upper grile.

The upper grille stays in place with the headlights... so no lights pointed skyward .

I've been feeding my R53 cookies off the internet and he's now quite "plump" and full bodied.

Apparently I was not aware that I suck. Please disregard any prior postings.

If you were used to all the press photos for the '02 MINI (they were all about R50) then R53 did not look emaciated because of that big bulge on the bonnet. I never cared for it, and many preferred the Cooper bonnet, although really most tended to overlook such things in favor of that supercharger in there. R56 (bonnet-wise) actually looks like it's slimmed down a tad bit considering the bulge on the R53 bonnet.
