07 MINI S - raising the rear seat?

According to the owner's manual (page 23), to gain access to the emergency deck release ring, you should raise the rear seat. My rear seat does not raise. Is there some type of release for the rear seat or is the manual incorrect?

Pull up on the right and left corners of the front of the rear seat. They have large snap-like mechanisms holding them down. The cable is there. I know...

In the top picture, the hatch release has been moved to the right wall to keep it from being damaged while working.

Robin, when you say "front seat" you mean "front of rear seat" is that correct.?. Also in your picture there is black a pull- ring on the right side. What is that?

Thanks. I have pulled up on both sides of the rear seat (with considerable force) and the seat remained fixed. I'm afraid that I am going to break something if I use any more force. Hopefully I will never need to get to the release ring

That is the manual release for the hatch, looks like Robin has relocated it from it's origianl position in the center of the seat area. Also pull up on the front corners of the rear seat.

Yes, I moved it out of the way while working. It would be attached to a small bracket in the center of the rear seats. I'll go take some photos of the "snap" mechanism.

Here is the part of the snap mechanism in the car. It is something like a steel tube.

Below is the "snap" mechanism under the seat. The tube (above) goes between the two steel colored rods and spreads them apart. It takes quite a bit of force to unsnap them because you wouldn't want the seat flying around in an accident.

Below is a photo of the hatch release cable. It usually goes into that small bracket it is next to.

I got it out! The pictures were very helpful. You're right, it takes quite a bit of force. Thanks for the help.
