R56 Easy way to pop up the sunroof?
Easy way to pop up the sunroof?
I am shopping around and I have niggling question about the MCS sunroof. I was unable to get the sunroof to automatically pop-up. Activating the button starts the process in motion and then I had to try and time it right to get the roof at pop-up. Most of the time I was too slow and the roof started opening by the time I released.
Am I just dumb or is this the design?
My dealership sales manager admits to the same problem.

If you fully pull the switch toward you and then immediately release it, the sunroof will open to full tilt. The link below has sevral posts about it on pge #2.

Even knowing that info before I got my car, it took me few tries to figure out what people were talking about before I was able to do it myself. You can also hold down the unlock button on the key fob, and it will roll down the windows and pop the sunroof.
It is a kind of counter-intuitive design. You have to push the switch past the resist point and then let go for the pop-up. If you stop at the resistance point, the roof stops when you do. If you don't let go after pushing into the resist point, it slides. It's one of those things that just take getting used to, like when to release the clutch.
I think I started to figure this out last night...
As you walk towards the car use your keyless entry and push the unlock button three times. On the third button push hold the button. This will open your side windows.

great find about popping the SR from inside with one quick touch.
Opening from the outside with the fob - I always have the windows roll down first then the sunroof pops. Haven't been able to get the sunroof to pop first no matter what combo of pushes I do.

Nope....can't pop the sunroof first with the fob., but I can live with that.
I'm not 100% sure on this but I think the car has to be running for the pull back all the way and release for the pop up to work. When I've done it with just the fob in and not started it doesn't seem to work correctly.
The MINI doesn't have to be running but your key has to be in the accessory position (LoL) Key in, hit start button without pushing clutch or brake. Lights on dash come on then it'll work. Of course it works if you start the MINI too.
