First time ever - stopped by traffic cop today

So, I've been non-environmentally friendly and stopped taking the train to/from work so I can drive my two-week old MINI as much as possible. On part of my commute, there's a couple of traffic cops stationed each morning handling traffic at a particular intersection. My road is the busiest one, so they usually wave us through more often than not. Today, though, one of them put his hand up and halted me. Fine, all good, I can wait....and then he started the slow walk towards me, from about 50-60 feet away, looking pretty serious. So now I'm suddenly nervous, what did I do, did I screw up, did he remember an offense from another morning? Is something 'out' on my car? Did I stop too short / too far? Anyway, he gets close, I wind my window down, he leans in and says .... "Hey, is this an '07? I've got an '06 Cooper S. Great cars!" and we proceed to chat about MINIs, the 06/07 differences, what fun they are, and generally held up rush hour traffic for about 90 seconds

He was a pretty cool guy, and I thought this was a 'cute' story to share

It's funny to be stopped and asked about your MC. It's toned down a bit for me since there are more of us out there, but in 05' I was asked just about 3-5 times a week about it. Still when I go into an auto parts store for anything the mini needs, the sales people always ask who makes Mini! LOL!! Uh Mini does.. Whos that ? they say. I just go up to their screen and point to the name. durr....

But cute story all the same!

I wish when I'd been stopped in Utah, on my way to MITM, that all the cop wanted to do was chat MINI with me. But, errrr, no, that wasn't exactly what he had in mind.

Nice story! Thanks for sharing.

I wan't so lucky. I had my 07mcs a month when I was visiting VA and got stopped by a Statie going 69 in a 55 on a back road at 7am. He was nice enough, asked how fast the thing went, etc. But, he wasn't nice enough NOT to give me a ticket. Drats.

I lived on a military base last year and got stopped all the time to ask about the MINI. The MP's wanted to know how fast it went, how much horsepower it had, if they could drive it.....uhhh....NO!!!!! That was when I had my 06, I can hardly wait to see what they say about my 07!

I'd rather get stopped by a Mini-owning cop when I was doing 30 over the speed limit and hearing him say "I completely understand. You can go now..."

Nice story, it is interesting how many people ask about our MINIs and where they decide they want to talk.

I was stopping at the local coffee house yesterday afternoon. Parking area was real crowded but right up front by the main door was a space. After I was out and walking to the door a nice older guy asked if I owned the MINI! I guess he did not see me pull in and get out, but I considered the question was said with a smile. So I said yes, which lead to a long conversation about the MINI and what I thought etc. It appears the he was shopping for a new small car for him and his wife and the MINI was on his short list. I think I hooked another one!

Always fun to talk MINI.

I got pulled over for running a stop sign by 2 cops at the same time. The cops just said you're lucky we're going to lunch right now and was laughing. My excuse was sorry sir I'm just learning how to drive stick. So lucky!

Great story!! It just prove's that the police are human too and enjoy the same things as every one else. When you get a tickit, they are just doing their job.

I think that aside from just wanting to check out your gorgeous MINI, they prolly wanted to check you out too....and then ask you about the "fresh fruit" (aka: Ed) in the passenger seat.

While he certainly can be fresh, he wasn't with me. It was on the last leg of Malibu Stacy's road trip home from taking delivery in Indiana.

He was actually looking inside your Mini for coffee and doughnuts. If either favorite, of power-trippin' cops everywhere, was in plain site he would have confiscated them.
