Is the MC market softening?

I sent an inquiry to a dealer in the next major city over and he initially said that there was no discount - MSRP or nothing. He emails me often and is now sending me a "coupon" for a $200 coupon for accessories.

Are they stacking up on lots?

Some dealers do this. Some folks are actually getting slightly below MSRP. Once the plant upped production there was a glut of MINIs on lots but around here they're slowly dwindling.

When I ordered my MCS in early March, the dealer's lot was full of 2006 MC's but no MCS'.

Is it too early for dealers to be reducing inventory in anticipation of their 2008 acquisitions?

When I was at our local dealer, I had a casual conversation about the mutltiple 07 MC automatics which were showing $1000 under MSRP on the lot. This was about about week and a half ago.

Apparently MINI changed the rules recently on how the allocation process is handled, so some dealers have to clear the inventory before they can take orders for customers new MINIs. Odd way to work something, if I understood it correctly.

It could explain why some folks are getting some deals on the MC in the mid-year. I don't think they will be taking orders on the 08 models until late fall, but I have been wrong in the past. :impatient

We ordered 5/5/7 and the MA offered $200 worth of accessories then. I was already looking at white turns so he threw in mats and rear fogs. This was on an MCS.
I am not sure what this means, but I got the feeling that that was the only ground they were going to give. Lots have gotten roughly the same deal, some a little less. I think it must be built into their sales tactics....that way a bartering customer feels like he got something for his effort and non-batering customer feels like he got special treatment.
Would be a pretty cheap way to sweeten a deal.

Not only the auto's we got a manual with the $1000 off at Ralph Schomp but it was only on MC's not MCS.

I was looking at dealer inventory on-line here in So Cal a couple weeks ago, and was surprised to see a few MCSs...not base models...with the 2-spoke steering wheel. AFAIK, only the very early production cars had this, yet they are still on lots.

Lots of inventory in general...I'd be surprised if they are all sold for MSRP. Perhaps the MCS is facing real competition now?

The dealer in Jacksonville Florida tried to sell me an 06 Demo MC last week and said he would take $780 off MSRP. I just laughed at him. Oh please, let me buy your 2 year old demo with 400 HARD miles on it for almost MSRP. Apparently I look stupid. I would be a waste of money, the second you drove it off the lot, you just lost 2 years depreciation. I'm going to order a MC with just the options I want. Silver, Sport Suspension and Xenon lights. That's it. Cheaper and I don't eat $4000 the second it rolls over the curb out of the lot. If I could find someplace giving $1000 below MSRP, I'd be very happy.

Tough to tell the sex from those, so you better paint the garage a neutral color.

Hmmmm, seems like these things need a little push to get them of the lot. A buddy just picked up an R56 and was given the MINI branded NUVI NAV unit, mount, and installation. Man, I had to practically get on my knees and BEG to get free floor mats. Now they are giving away free nav units? Darn, these motards sure aint selling with their own merits.

It's a boy...his little exhaust tip shows in the blue picture. It's tiny, but his Father eagerly awaits his arrival and swears it will grow shortly after delivery

I take it you had to pay for your lobotomy. Dunt(tm) be jealous when folks get stuff for free that you had to pay for.

*Hat tip* to Skuzzy.

I doubt they would do one for free if it had to include a colonoscopy to get there.

Just 2 years ago, you'd be lucky to see much more than a half dozen unsold cars on a lot. Both of the dealers in our area now have sevaral dozen MINIs on the lot. I don't know whether they're predominantly MCs or automatics, but it does indicate to me that the 2nd gens aren't quite as popular as the 1st (unless BMW substantially ramped up production).

Both a week before & when I picked up my MCSa July 10th, the showroom was empty. The end of April, you had to beg a salesperson to wait on you. However, I looking the entire lot 7/3 and did not find a single '07 MCS available. I agree, BMW ramped up production.

I doubt that had anything to do with either how they are selling or production. The dealership is either mismanaged (having no cars to drive nor look at is like saying "sorry, maybe go over to VW and see if they have anything you might like") or isn't getting their orders.

I'm glad they're offering something for the MC. I always thought the MC was a smidge overpriced then they upped the price $600 in '07 I'm guessing for the 6 speed trans mostly.
I'm a MC fan and owner but the '07 MCS gets close to the same MPG as my '06 MC. Also, the (real world) MPG gap has closed between the '07 MC and MCS as well so the MC is marginally less appealing for even the most frugal buyers IMHO.
If I were buying today it would be a tough choice, though I think a non metallic oxygen blue MC would still prevail.

I'm sure the insurance is still higher for the MCS than the MC, though I don't have any numbers.

At my dealer this morning - I've never seen so much parking. In the past 7 months I've been going to this place I've never seen so few cars. I see no markdowns on 07s, just the few 06s that are left. Man, what a great time to get an 06.
