New Passat has the same turn signal mechanism.

I visited VW website and noticed it has the same 3 blinks and off thing. I also noticed the upgrade body kit is $3K or $4K .

I LOVE the 3 blink turn signal. You just hit it before you change lanes and voila...no more holding it, cycling it, etc. This is on my GLI. I didn't know this was what you all were complaining about. I actually find it an inconvienence to drive anything without it!

I agree with DV8MINI -- I had a BMW 3-series with this feature and I loved it! I can't believe people are complaining about this.

Depends on your preferences/habits--I signal until I finish my maneuver--no way do I finish a lane change in three blinks

You can do it that way if you wish. Just push it up into the detent, and it will stay on. When your maneuver is done, you cancel it with a jab in the same direction. And you get to keep your hands firmly on the wheel during the maneuver.

Oh, I know it's not rocket science; it's just that with the mechanical lever I can hold it shy of the lock to signal for as long as I hold it there. But, no love lost either way.

I think if you have the blinker set for the 1-blink option you can do the same thing - meaning hold it shy of the detent (akin to the lock-to) and it will blink until you let it go and it returns to center. That's very similar behavior to the traditional mechanism.

Works the same way with 3 or 1 blink. If you hold the stalk up to the constant turn single engagement the blinker will keep blinking until you let go.

i don't like it, sometimes when in heavy traffic, you have to let ur blinkers go at least 10 times before the stupid idiots figure out that you are trying to switch lanes...so therefore, i dont like this feature

It works super for me!!! It takes a little adjustment (like many things MINI) but once one has adapted the signals (and cancelling of same) is very straightforward.
