R56 MFSW (without Nav) - Voice commands?
MFSW (without Nav) - Voice commands?
The MFSW has a button on it with a picture of a head, which is used for voice commands. Does anyone know what voice commands should be available, as the manual is vague on the subject.
I read in another thread that those with Nav can use voice commands to turn the radio on, for example, but they needed a software download to enable it.

I think that you have NAV or Bluetooth for this system to work. I know that there are about 200 commands that it recognises. My NAV doesnt talk to me at the moment as I have to bring it back for a software upgrade.
Does anyone know if recent production cars with nav are coming through with working voice recognition? Mine is due in N.Y on the 21st, and the thought of an initial dealer software "upgrade" scares me to death...having experienced BMW software "upgrades" before.

I haven't seen an explanation of why some people's systems haven't worked, but the problem seems to be spotty.

I have the MFSW and the bluetooth feature and the voice recognition works great! You can program numbers into a voice activated address book and have the car dial by name. Very useful hands free feature. There are a number of available commands, you can even say help and it will list the available commands.I do not have the navigation system but I'm sure there are more voice acitvated features with NAV.

Then I started trying to search the car's functions and I found that my address book had already been imported. I'm not sure how it happened, but whatever it was, it did it automatically.
I'm on T-Mobile, not sure if all Razrs are the same with different carriers. Good luck.
I would think as long as the bluetooth pairs up this should be an automagic process. I've paired up a couple of LG 8600 cel phones with a Garmin Nuvi unit before and it transfers everything automatically.
not having any problem w/ phonebook ---its there. However, using the MSFW, it will not accept a voice command to dial a name ( will accept a called out number) as per book--tells me phone book is empty and will not allow me to add a voice command with a nmae tied to a phone number. Very frustrating.

It will import your phone address book so you can dial with the buttons in Audio. It will not import the book into the voice dial so you can dial names. You have to do that yourself. You can dial numbers by voice ("dial number" asks for number, say the number). Check the manual, it will guide you through it. You have to set each name with a number individually. You don't even need the phone hooked up to do it. Until you do that the address book in the car voice dial is empty, whereas the address book you see in the audio system with the phone hooked up is stored on the phone. Make sense? I forget the sequence, something like "store number" or "store name" and it goes from there. I got it to work, but it took some messing around with.

In order to dial by name with the voice command from the MFSW you must first record the name in the car. If I recall correctly, you press the 'voice command' button on the wheel spoke, and the prompt is "SAVE NAME" (or "STORE NAME") - check the manual to be sure. The Bluetooth link doesn't use the stored voice dialing from the phone - it has to be stored in the vehicle. It does however import the address list from the phone as others have stated.
I use the voice dial function a lot, and it works great.

Mine did. When the address book from my phone was imported into the car's system, it allowed to dial by name, "Dial Joey," for example. I did not have to program it at all for it to respond that way.
OK---finally go it to work...First command is Save Name NOT Store Name as in manual...then you must be very deliberate..wait for it to say SPEAK ...DO NOT talk when it says continue...wait for it to say SPEAK NOW...Last command is SAVE.
I wrote out a list with numbers 1-10 and then proceeded.
It take a while for each entry...be patient (not usually a virtue with ME).
Perhaps certain phones and software do this automatically but my Cing. RAZR did not. It had to be programmed into the car manually.
Hope this helps for anyone who had as much trouble as I did gettting this function programmed.
